At this rate there is a pretty good chance he goes pro next season, no? He can continue working on his game/strength with the Wranglers, there's not much else to prove in the NCAA if he wins the Hobey. Based on his interview where he says he wants to "play with the flames in 1-2 years", he has to be considering it.

Wranglers play twice as many games as the NCAA, so there's subtantially less time for off ice strength training in season.
I do think he goes pro though. As much as his game will benefit from more strength/power, he is also going to need a higher level of competition to keep improving.
And from Wyttenbach's perspective, he will want to make a pro impact ASAP with so many other young wingers in the pro ranks (Gridin already in the NHL, Suniev/Basha/Battaglia/Honzek/Stromgren all competing for callups and top AHL minutes).
Flames seem to take a lot of input from the player. They may just leave it up to the player and his agent whether Wyttenbach turns pro now or in a year.

For the playoffs, they first have the ECAC tournament. The ECAC tournament has the same structure as the Olympics, there are 12 total teams, who all qualify for the postseason. The top-4 teams gets byes to the quarterfinals and the bottom 8 play a qualifying round to get into the quarterfinals. Quinnipiac is at the top of the ECAC standings and will get a bye to the QF.
The ECAC QF is a best of 3 series, and the semifinal and final are single elimination. Depending on how they do, they'll play a minimum of 2 games and a maximum of 5 games in the ECAC tournament.
They also have a very high probability of getting an invite to the national tournament, which is single elimination, minimum of 1 game and maximum of 4.
He could play anywhere from 3 to 9 additional games in the postseason.

I don't think the weight room is as big of an issue with him as it with other players that enter NCAA 155 to 165. If he is playing over 180lbs right now he probably isn't far off from his NHL playing weight.

I believe he will turn pro if he wins Hobey Baker.

Why does he have to be 13-17 points in the lead to have a shot to win the Hobey? Lol
The neighborhood of 8 should suffice lol, even though most of us suspect it will be more.

Because on average he plays weaker teams than other top scorers. I would agree that he needs about mid teens point lead to win it

I still salivate over a Wyttenbach-Potter-Coronato line.
Wyt is already listed at 5'11 now and Potter had allegedly grown over the summer. For all those attacking the height of this proposed line!! Lol
But all three are very creative offensively, fast, and hard on the puck.

It is just generally that this award typically goes to a more senior player. A freshman winning has only happened 4 times. Kariya in 93, Eichel 15, Fantilli 23, and Celebrini in 24.
I do wonder if that old school thought process is starting to go away considering you went 20 years before Eichel and then had back to back freshman.
For the record Celebrini had 64 in 38 games, Fantilli had 65 in 36, Eichel 71 points in 40 games.
So 51 in 32 games is on pace to be right there.
I do agree with you that the 8 points should be sufficient. Eichel was 10 points up in his year. Fantilli only 5 points. Celebrini was actually 3rd (Will Smith had 71 points, Cutter Gautheir 65).

They all played on Hockey East or Big 10 teams though....and that matters when it comes to HB voting.
Thats the bias that was mentioned and its real....right or wrong.

you have to scroll down to Hugh Jessiman or Jordan Schroeder (who still played 150 games) and those guys are well off Wyttenbach's PPG

I still think he needs to hit 60 pts to get there.
