Will Flames Trade one of Weegar/Whitecloud?
I feel we are at the stage of the trade freeze where we are about to crack each others heads open and feast on the goo, so to avoid riveting discussion on whether the value of a first round pick is a second round pick and who said what, let’s discuss whether we trade from a now position of strength, and who might be interested.
Boston - obvious one. We had a deal with them for Ras. Do they have a similar level of interest in Weegar or Whitecloud, and could they offer a similar package?
LAK - Will injury to Fiala push the focus towards improving their F group over D? Had an acceptable package for Ras over the summer, if they strike out on F targets, they could pivot to D
San Jose - as oilfan81 has indicated, they had interest in Ras and reportedly have whitecloud as a target. Less complication than Ras if they want Whitecloud as no trade protection and comes with term. Could they offer an acceptable package?
Detroit - have had them listed as suitors for Kadri and Coleman, so why not add them to the list. They need d, but Yzerman has T-Rex arms and is reluctant to reach for his wallet. Seems to be in on everything, but comes away with nothing. Good segue for
Toronto - car has been driven into the ditch by the wizard. How much more desperate can he get before the deadline, or will Keith Pelley take the keys away from him in time before they fall off the cliff? Unless it’s Cowan/Danford/2028 first, can’t see it
Ottawa - haven been looking for help on d and a culture carrier. Lots of talk about Weegar as he’s a local guy. Would he waive to go home? Even if he does, staois is holding on to his biggest trade chips in Yakemchuk and Hensler. What else do they have that we would want? Would he weaken his f ground and make pinto or cozens available, which are about the only 2 names outside of their unreadables that Conny may listen to? I have my doubts.
Dallas - will the second best player from Hanna turned GM make another deadline splash? Didn’t seem willing to pony up a good offer for ras and seems to be taking a longer term view for his team in his reluctance to trade more futures after depleting the bank in the Rantanen deal. Doubt he will put together the best offer, and can see them pivoting to another rhd that doesn’t cost much in terms of future assets.

I think whoever gets the best deal goes. If someone gives an unexpectedly good deal for one or the other it’s probably done. I dont see them moving ahead with both.

One or both may be moved if the value is there. Otherwise I will not be surprised to see both of them still here next year.

If one goes I actually think it should be Weeger. It sounds like he has full control so that might be difficult.

Weegar to SJ would be fantastic IMO. Bystedt or McKinney would be a nice way to bolster the Flames prospect center depth.

I'm going to guess yes ...
one of Coleman or Kadri
one of Whitecloud or Weegar
one of Hanley or Pachal
Lomberg
4 vets out.

Personally think flames would like to keep both. That said I posted weeks ago that I think weegar will have a change of heart with staying for a full rebuild. One of our resident insiders said he heard he was not interested in sticking around for a full rebuild. Don’t think he will be traded at deadline but I could see summer. Yes I know that some of you think it’s been a full rebuild already but I think they are pulling the final band aid off with Trading Anderson , and soon to be Kadri and Coleman . I also won’t be surprised if Hubby doesn’t play a game for the flames next year. If I was weegar id want out also.

I’d bet on:
Coleman - Too much interest, maybe our most valuable asset atm
Kadri - I think his pedigree and the fact he’s probably the top center available means he’s moved
Maybe a Depth forward - Lomberg, Sharky, Farabee etc
1 d-man - Hanley, Pachal, Whitecloud with Weegar as the dark horse

I would bank on Pachal. Serviceable depth.
Ball, weegar and whitecloud are great vets to have around for a few years.

I don't think either goes....at least for now/TDL.
Can easily see a deal in the summer/the draft happen however.

Neither. One of Hanley or Pachal possibly move but neither are UFA so while they'd be a good insurance depth add for a contender the team would probably want to have them in their 7/8 next year too.

Only if they get a good deal
They don’t need another long shot prospect and a bottom of the round pick
They can wait

I would be phasing out assets in this timeframe:
26 - Andersson, Coleman... Pachal, Hanley and Lomberg if they have any value
27 - Kadri, Whitecloud... Frost (trade or re-sign)
28 - Weegar... Farabee, Zary, Cooley (trade or re-sign)

I don't think they'll start next season with both of them in the lineup, but I don't know if the move happens before the deadline or during the summer.
The roster freeze ends next Sunday at 11:59pm ET. I wonder if we start hearing some rumblings this week of deals getting lined up to be announced on Monday so the players can be in their new cities when play resumes on Wednesday/Thursday?
