Since when were you allowed to do back flips in the free program?

I think Kurt Browning who landed the 1st quad also did back flips in the after competition skate.

I know nothing about figure skating but the announcers still trying to sell that he had a shot at gold after that collapse seemed a bit dramatic no? Dude was on his ass for half the skate.

Definitely no export but was shocked by this. Pulling out of the jumps is one thing but the falls too? Would have been insane to still win gold after that.
