Province going forward with trials to increase speed limits to 120 on certain sections of divided highway, without doing anything about Alberta's horrific lane discipline.

Quote:
AB Transportation plans to test out a higher speed limit on some rural divided highways next year after the results from a recent survey suggested most people in the province are in favour of the proposal.
Good video on why it's a bad idea:

There was a pretty massive crash on the way home yesterday on Macleod at 99 Ave SE involving a school bus. Pretty fortunate that no kids were hurt, but it sounds like the bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle were seriously injured.

Spoiler!

I'm not usually somebody who brings up this kind of stuff, but this is becoming a pretty dangerous intersection. Particularly when you are southbound turning left onto 99 Ave, the hill makes it a little difficult to see oncoming traffic (and those going north are often still travelling at 80 km/h+ coming off that section of Macleod).

I believe around a year ago a motorcyclist died in a similar accident at this intersection.

I'm sure bad drivers play a role, and I'm not sure what the solution is here, but it seems like they should probably reduce the speed limit along this stretch. It's currently at 70, though this probably won't stop those who are already speeding through here.

I think it’s primarily poor drivers. And I’m not sure what you do about that.

I’ve never had an issue with the sight lines there and 70/80 is not particularly fast for that road. Unfortunately I feel like I’m asking myself “how” more and more after every collision I pass.

Solid agreement here, this looks like a case of bad / inattentive driving. Even in my car where my arse is barely a foot away from the road surface, I would very easily be able to see a gigantic yellow bus headed my way in either traffic direction.

This was an unprotected left turn, and the driver of the Corolla -- according to Reddit witnesses -- is the one who turned in front of the bus to get to the Superstore parking lot. It would have JUST become a 70 zone for the school bus.

As soon as I saw the Corolla in the picture, I assumed it was their fault. Anytime you see a Corolla, or even worse, a Yaris, watch out and give them plenty of room.

Ever since it was mentioned on CP, I can not help but check the model of the struggling to merge or achieve the speed limit on to the Deerfoot. It is always a Rav4.

Saw an accident a couple weeks ago in that intersection. SUV was flipped on it's side towards the car wash.

I do not make such accusations without cause. I suspect lots of the strugglers in Corollas and Camrys decided they wanted an SUV and the RAV4 won.

Did the Province or City ruin the offramp from Deerfoot onto Beddington? Ever since they opened the entrance from 11th St, it has become a slog, like people are scared to drive the speed limit even though they can, even when there are no cars coming from 11th and the lights are green. It’s infuriating.

That backdoor onto Deerfoot is the single biggest improvement of the whole north Deerfoot project. Calgary drivers being horrendous isn't really the fault of the province there.

I am sure it’s convenient if you’re using it to get onto Deerfoot. I don’t know why it suddenly turned people getting onto Beddington into Sunday drivers.

Also they need to find something better than a stop sign at 11th at Aero Gate. I have taken that route a couple of times, it should be a straight through for traffic on 11th and a yield for traffic coming from Aero.

It's terrible, they need a traffic light there. At 4 pm nobody from Aero will ever get through if they had a yield.
