It's too bad you and other idiots like you voted in a provincial government that 1. created the conditions for the citizen initiatives and recalls, then 2. has refused to properly fund the organization whose entire purpose is to ensure integrity.

The point is that as funny as it is to write in Jack Mehoff, you don't want to artificially inflate a petition's initial signatures and give these separatist fuсksticks the impression that they have more support than they do, or worse, risk putting the petition over the threshold pre-validation.

For me I trust the process if it’s appropriately funded and backed by appropriate statistical rigor. We know the government has not approved the funding required to do this from the education recalls. So therefore it’s a risk. This petition will also likely be closer to the threshold which hopefully will require the appropriate increase in scrutiny to be statistically valid

I’m also more concerned with the perception of removing 10k signatures from the list that puts the petition under the threshold from conspiracy minded folks who already have low trust in government.

It’s astonishing mismanagement. They’re not funding anything, and can’t come close to balancing the budget.

Leaders of a right-wing group pushing a conservative Canadian province to secede and form a new nation say they have been meeting with Trump administration officials to discuss how their radical plan can benefit the U.S.

In three separate, highly unusual meetings with officials from the State and Treasury departments, they’ve discussed the logistics of Alberta breaking off from Canada, including switching over to U.S. currency and creating a new military.

Why the #### are these seditious mother####ers permitted to return to Canada? Our biggest failure as a country is that we are so goddamned soft and permit this ####.

Modry, Rath and the Trump administration all declined to say which U.S. officials were present; Rath and Modry said they had agreed as a condition of meeting that they would not publicly name them.

So Rath says they have another meeting with the U.S. planned soon. But according to a State Department official, there will not be another meeting. So is Rath lying? Is the U.S. official lying?

Also, how is it that both the Alberta and Federal governments are allowing these insane non-elected f***wits to go down there and speak on behalf of Albertans? I think we know the answer on the Alberta side (lookin' at you, Smith).

I'm certain that CSIS are likely keeping a close watch on these losers, but is there nothing that the Feds can do here in regards to shutting this s*** down completely?

Best line in here for me is this one 'the unelected traitor tots who are running off to Washington D.C. to negotiate our future with the Trump clown show'

That's a stupid number to claim. Let's assume Canadian pollsters know what they're doing (and I think that they do), if so then then this is roughly a 70-30 issue when including leaners. By my rough estimate that means that they would need to get almost literally every eligible citizen who supports the idea behind their petition to actually sign it (including undedicated leaners). Not going to happen... I don't think even those chuckle####s are dumb enough to think they'll get a million, they just say things like that to put out a fraudulent sense of social acceptability.

If they have a conversion rate (nominal supporters to signers) similar to Forever Canadian they'll get roughly 122K. Now... do I think they could get a higher conversion rate then Forever Canadian got? Possibly. Breadth of opinion isn't the same as depth of opinion and these idiots are probably pretty well funded (plus they don't seem like overly ethical folk so I'm inclined to believe that if they're remotely close then they'll just submit a bunch of fake names) so I think they'll get pretty close to the required number of signors.

Until a direct conduit from Rath and the other traitorous morons to people in power in Alberta is proven out, then we can't really take the meetings seriously or punish them.
Private citizens are allowed to meet with whomever. It might be entirely stupid, and really dumb, but we can't strip their rights away for being idiots, even if what they are talking about might be some form of treason.

It doesnt matter what they say to Trump, they have no power to act on it.

The link back to party leadership in the province is actually really important here.

Imagine being a Canadian right now that has full voting rights and full privileges as a citizen of Canada. Now you're drinking and you become an Alberta separatist who wants independence and... starts negotiating to join the US? (make that make sense; dunderheaded fallacy #1, but anyways... ) And then should you get it, thinking you'll actually have full rights as an Alberta/American citizen - when in reality, you'll likely be nothing more than Puerto Rico, where citizens don't have congressional voting rights.

So not only do you lose your voting rights and all of your independence, you lose more rights overall, while said nation takes your natural resources and exploits them at no benefit to you - in the meantime, you lose your CPP and property values, have to deal with an educated brain drain (good bye doctors, lawyers, urban planners, etc.), have to deal with spending huge amounts to build a new currency (super devalued by the way) and your own defense/military infrastructure, and then stiffed with half-empty cities that you now get to somehow fund and maintain on your own with half the taxes now coming in. Oh yeah, and say goodbye to headquarters, which will immediately leave for the rest of Canada, so enjoy the massive unemployment.

Separtists are such dunderheads, and everything about their movement is laughable. The fact that they get as much coverage right now as they do is not just mind boggling, its a colossal and sad waste of general cranial capital.

What Smith needs to do though is make it crystal clear that nothing these guys say has any weight or legitimacy whatsoever. They're just private citizens telling fantastical stories. She won't though.
