The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Global punter Fraser Masin to a two-year contract.
The 24-year-old Australian was selected first overall in the 2025 CFL Global Draft by the Calgary Stampeders, appearing in five regular-season games and recording 27 punts for a 46.0-yard average. He was eventually benched in favour of fellow Global rookie Mark Vassett and finished the season on the practice roster, which made him a free agent at the end of the year.
|
Not a big loss, He wasn't a great punter for the Stamps.

We should probably create a 2026 dated thread at some point - Maybe wait until free agency is done and dusted and training camps open in early May.

The Ottawa Redblacks have officially signed American quarterback Jake Maier to a one-year contract for the 2026 CFL season. 3DownNation reported the agreement last week.
Per sources, Maier will earn $200,000 in hard money with an additional $54,000 in playtime incentive available. He becomes the highest-paid backup QB in the three-down league. The contract was negotiated by veteran agent Rob Fry.
|
How in the world does Maier have the reputation to earn 200K to be a backup.

I'm a fan of both, the CFL was definitely the more entertaining of the 2 in 2025

Reading this morning that Kurleigh Gittens Jr. has agreed to terms with the Ti-Cats. Rhymes is running out of options.

Outside of the Stamps, maybe a Ottawa reunion for him?

Perhaps, but Rhymes said he really liked things in Calgary last season and has good chemistry with VA. Also, the way Ottawa has spent money on free agents, I don't think they have much room for Rhymes. We'll see what happens.

With all their OL signings, the Elks have released OL Ivey. He was excellent 2 years ago, the Stamps should be looking at him.

Dickenson was on with Jock Wilson the other day. Here is the recap from Mark Stephen's Facebook page.
Quote:
UPDATE: Stampeders GM/HC Dave Dickenson appeared on Sportstalk with Jock on CHQR Radio. Below is a summary of his comments:
+said his priority was to keep players on the current squad and reward them
+says he likes the team and the team chemsitry
+as a result of rewarding players internally, they did not have a lot of money for free agents
+wanted an additional Canadian starter and targeted Dejon Brissett
+watched his video and liked how he worked in the Argos offense, which is very similar to the Stamps offense.
+signed former Elks DB Dev Bynum, based on his strong 2024.
+said he played very well in '24 but was injured in '25 and lost his spot with Edmonton.
+said Bynum is a natural corner
+says running back McMahon is a bit of a change up back, as opposed to Dedrick Mills
+not settled on their entire running back picture at this moment.
+running back decision will also be tied to how they deploy people in the return game (RB, DB, receivers?)
+they will keep their eyes open for remaining free agents, but do not intend to be 'super-aggressive'
+Stamps will spend right up to the cap
+spoke with quarterback P. J. Walker
+says he has resumed throwing, but on a very limited basis
+Dickenson says Walker needs training camp to build on what he learned in 2025
+noted that offensive lineman Josh Coker would be signed if he was healthy
+however, the serious knee injury he suffered will keep him sidelined for a good portion of 2026.

Its curious if Rhymes priced himself out of the team or did he not fit in with the locker room outside of VA?

I have to believe this was a very tough decision and likely explains why he wasn't quick to sign a new deal. At any rate, he played very well for the Stamps last season and seems like a pretty good guy, I wish him the best in retirement.

Yeah....my guess is he waited until FA was officially started....saw what the offers were, and decided it wasn't enough to bring him back one more year.
Probably has another gig lined up.
Great receiver for many years and all the best to him whatever he decides to do.

Apparently there was a fire at McMahon Stadium early this morning - Anybody in Calgary with further details or an update?
Edit: It seems like it was a pretty small fire and it was contained quite quickly, although there was some damage done.
