Trumpchuk said it was better to meet his idol, a pedophile orange rapist, than winning 2 cups.
He can go eff off into the sun. I hope he has a daughter one day and has to explain that clip to her. deplorable moron.

If anti-intellectual means not venerating someone because they look down their noses at others in society, because of their vocation which mostly involves regurgitating words from a book to disinterested young adults, then yes, I'm anti-intellectual.

While I detest what the panthers players did in placating the pretend-king, generalizing based on a couple of anecdotal encounters also isn't a very academic way of operating. While both sides are begrudging and generalizing based on what are clearly personal biases, cam does have a point there. There are some smart players, as there are many who fit the stereotype.
And depending on what area you teach in, some in the academic world would subscribe to Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences wherein even though you're above average in one area of intelligence, you probably are deficient and would get your ass handed to you in a few others (one being bodily-kinesthetic intelligence). So leading with some degree of humility and respect, instead of referring to a group (*that aren't MAGA) as simple folk, is probably a good policy. Especially when they're on average larger and more physically imposing people.
And to set a positive example I'll say not all scholars/academics have elitist attitudes. Probably far from all. After all, don't they say that typically the more you learn, the more you realize you don't actually know and have yet to learn. By that wisdom, I'd fancy a guess that the smartest academics tend to be among the most humble. Writing them all off as complete snobs is equally silly and probably isn't based on particularly diverse real world encounters.
I swear people are just leaning full tilt into generalizations and labels these days. Looks to be a side effect of substituting screens and algorithms for real-world interactions.

The trade removed upchuk from our roster, and in doing so blocked 2 coiler cups.
One of the best trades in Flames history in my book. Arguably the best. So glad the rat isn't a Flame any longer.
If a top Flames player was a Trump bootlicker, I'd have a very hard time cheering for the team until he was gone.

Every American on the team is in Trump's wheelhouse economically. You might be surprised that Coronato or Cooley like to wear the red cap on occassion.
Hard to tell from your post if voting red is ok, but rich young males are typically republicans.

To be clear I was mocking the wise and learned Cali, I wasn't genuinely suggesting all academics are self-important dicks. Every subset of society has shades of gray, it would be asinine to suggest they are all black or all white, all elitist or all dumb brutes etc.
But I guess Cali never read that in his course materials.

Then you better get used to not cheering for the Flames.
There would be a number of Flames who like Trump. Alberta is full of them.

Only one league, Major League Baseball, had a higher percentage of American players who were registered as Republican at 53.7 per cent compared to just 7.8 per cent Democratic and 36.4 Independent.
The NHL came second at 43.9 per cent Republican, 5.6 per cent Democratic, and 48.6 per cent Independent.
|
Independent voters, on average, split their votes, but it's likely among this group they also leaned right. This applies to American players, but the sentiment isn't going to be that different among Canadian players, who are largely from rural areas and/or grew up in very privileged environments.

Trump isn't "right and left" anymore. Its not just a political opinion. Nobody would care if they preferred Bush or whatever other clown they run next time. We have Trump attacking Canada, sharing racist memes, murdering citizens with ICE invading cities/states he didnt win on his request, named in pedo files 1M times (trying to hide it) and protecting child predators at all costs including members of his admin. Thats just in the last few weeks. These guys bootlicking Trump are on the wrong side of history and it won't age well.
Its mostly the fact he said meeting Trump was better than winning cups lol. Like has an NHL player even said anything that stupid? If he just went there and said thank you or whatever nobody would be saying anything. We aren't talking #### about any of the other players.
Rich, uneducated white guys leaning right is not the shocker here

(edit: not worth it)
The reality is, Matthew went to the WH, licked Trump's boots, called him his hero, and had his teammates dress up a particular way for Trump. That's a completely different category from simply being a Trump supporter and wearing a ret hat occasionally. If a Flame goes to the WH to give Trump head, then we're having a different conversation.
No, a nuanced position is neither mental gymnastics nor hypocrisy, regardless of how much you insist they are.

You are not wrong, but once Trump is gone, there will be another Trump like person taking his place.
Maybe not as senile and insane as Trump, but Trump has brought out the worse in republicans. The next guy in charge will be bolder and louder than they may have been in the past. Because Trump has made it, to some degree, socially acceptable among the republicans.

Nuance is understanding that people are muti-faceted, some are more patroitic than others and show that in different ways. A whole squad went to the White House and met Trump, yet I don't see guys like Barkov copping flak. Good ol' Canadian boy Sammy Bennett went, did he also "lick Trump's boots?" Why or how it's one rule for Matthew and another for everyone else on that team, I still can't comprehend.
Did he lay it on thick with his reverence for Trump? Yeah, I think so, but that doesn't mean he endorses whatever unproven charges you think Trump will some day answer to.

You say the other players are the same, then you go on to reference the difference between them and Tkachuk.
If this had been Nate Schmidt I bet you’d say something different. But not Tkachuk.
BTW, not exactly unproven charges. 34 time convicted felon, and found civilly liable for sexual assault by a jury (and a judge later found that “rape” was an accurate description).

Ok, so going to the White House is fine and dandy, it's only when you speak about the experience, that's where the problem lies.
And he's never been convicted of rape or sexual assault, or anything to do with underage children, which seem to be the most referenced of his so-called crimes.

I think or hope you are smart enough to know that there's a reason he and the other pedophiles haven't been convicted and it's not because they aren't guilty, so mentioning that he's not been convicted is pretty silly unless you have the intellect of a typical MAGA moron.

So you're implying he has bought his way out of whatever legal problems or potential problems he had. Bribed police, paid off judges, silenced witnesses, exerted his influence, Harvey Weinstein just on a bigger scale.
It's still just a theory. How many reporters have poured over, I don't even know how many pages, of the Epstein files? Yes they're mostly redacted but at some point the smoking gun has to be uncovered, that's if it exists.
