Yes. I didn't know it was a book, never read it. The premise alone, and Gosling, intrigued me enough. The new one looks like it gives away a major plot point, which probably comes in pretty early, but still. Judging by the previous one I didn't think it was going that direction and would have been happy to show up to the theatre and been totally surprised the direction it went.

But it's my own fault, I made a deal with myself not to watch more trailers once I already know I'll see something.

I haven't watched the trailer, but I wasn't that interested in Project Hail Mary until I read a summary of the premise. It seems like a trailer should include the following info:

Spoiler!

That doesn't give anything resembling the ending away. A trailer should let you know what you're getting into in terms of story.

It is certainly a choice, but as a fan of Hard-Boiled Detective stories I think this could be interesting.

Furthermore your analysis has omitted a single, and I think key, factor...this is no run-of-the-mill 62 year old.

This is Nicolas Fricken CAGE!!!

Always. Be. Cageing!!!

I think it could be good. I don't care for superhero stuff but Nic Cage as a superhero makes it interesting. Lamorne Morris is also pretty good in everything I've seen him in, I think he's underrated.
