Bummer about Santander but the one positive is we should hopefully get a full season of Varsho which should reduce the sting of losing Bo and not having Santander's bat to reduce the impact.

Not sure why Santander couldn't have done this even 2 months ago. Jays are just as much to blame as the player.
Clearer, as SCH mentioned in the snip about Beiber right after the WS, as to why he snapped up the Jays option, and considering the timeline for recovery is still very vauge 3 months later, it’s not an ideal situation.
Francis I think had his 25 minutes in the MLB spotlight with his historical month in summer 2024, but that could be that for his career.

Six months puts him to a return in August. Really not ideal when the team is getting ready for the playoffs. It's not even a first world problem. I hope he's out the whole year to prevent complications. Damn, I'm so annoyed at him, and probably shouldn't be as its an injury ultimately.

Was hoping for a 30+ HR bounce back from Taters, so that's too bad.
The overall outfield defense just improved though.
Hopefully Schneider/Loperfido/Schreck/Pinango step up.

Lukes-Varsho-Barger was the starting outfield for pretty much the whole playoffs at that seemed to work ok

I don't really want to see Davis in the line-up at all. OK as a largely bench guy but that's it. And I would like to see Joey use this as an opportunity to establish himself. I still think there is a player there.

A Lukes/Schneider platoon in LF is probably better than Santander anyways.

I think Schneider as a bench guy who starts against lefties is a big asset. Take out Gimenez and Lukes 50/50 when a lefty is on the mound and that's a decent number of starts for him, and he's a great bench bat. Being able to play infield and outfield really increases his usability as a pinch hitter as well. Much better than someone like Ty France where it was almost always 2 substitutions to get him 1 at-bat.

I feel like the jays need another bat somehow.

Well that sucks. Big fan of Bassitt, especially how valuable he was in the playoffs last season.
Really not happy he went to a rival, I was hoping to cheer for him quite a bit this season. I guess not now.

Any of the Jays, Yankees, Red Sox or Orioles could win the AL east and no one would be surprised.
And the Rays are always a pain in the ass that swings above their weight class.
Putrid division to be in.

I really liked Bassitt the human being. Sounds like he was holding out some hope to return but it didn't transpire. That AAV for the one year is high though. No room in the inn for him at that cost combined with the relief role he'd play.

It's a shame we didn't use him more in the last round. I thought he contained the Dodgers rather well, aside from his shaky outing in the last game (which wasn't entirely bad).

On one hand the playoff run was wrong. He could've been there with the team at any time during that run to enjoy it. It seems he was really pissed to sit out that long. That said sometimes time can heal all wounds. He's clearly regretting what transpired. He didn't commit a massive crime. Happens.

I like Berrios but I can’t imagine ever forfeiting the opportunity to celebrate a potential World Series win with my teammates - even if I didn’t contribute as much as I’d like.
That combined with his clinging to his start streak even when it wasn’t helping the team, tells me that he’s got some ego issues as a character flaw. At the same time, he’s known to be a good guy and regularly contributes to the community.
