I'll probably skip as many side quests as I can and just rush the end and get to the second game, which hopefully will feel a little more modern.
Yeah, the first game definitely feels very primitive and clunky. I definitely skipped it and watched a video to get the main story points. I'm glad I did, because ME2 was just so good. Working my way through 3 now and having a great time.

Finally completed my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. Quite glad I waited until I had a rig decent enough to run it full tilt, easily the best visuals in a game I've ever seen, and the game itself seems to be in great shape now after the rocky launch it had. Took me over 120hrs to do everything, only real complaint is that there's just too many of those damn NCPD side jobs. But much like with AC: Odyssey, I didn't mind the grind that much because the world was so interesting to be in. Ended up getting hooked on the Cyberpunk lore, and now I guess there's an anime series I need to catch up on

Agree about the game (and make sure and play Phantom Liberty) and the anime is great!

Yea I picked up the bundle that included PL, it was pretty cool seeing Idris Elba come in out of nowhere

Nioh 3 demo is out. I played through it this weekend and instantly pre-ordered the full version (comes out Feb 6th). Early GOTY candidate for me.

The demo is very generous, it includes the entire first zone of the base game and your progress carries over if you buy the full version. There's easily 10+ hours of content to play through.

Playing through the DLC now too. Fun game. And yeah, way too many NCPD side jobs, but it's a good way to see more of the environment.

Finished playing Dispatch tonight.

That's quite a fun game! It'd also make a pretty decent movie, as some others have said.

For the curious, I finished "better than 90% of the other players" in the dispatching mini-game.

Our friend (and general awesome guy) won a Grammy! 13 years after he got the first nomination for a video game soundtrack for Journey.

I'm glad he got the award because he definitely deserved it for Journey, can't speak to this one as I haven't played it but I have no doubt it's good. It's just really weird how the grammy noms for this stuff diverge so significantly from other game awards shows - as he specifically talks about, E33 wasn't even nominated and even he is saying it should have won like it did everywhere else. Presumably they just didn't submit it to be considered, or maybe it cost money to get considered, I dunno.

The only Dragon Quest game I've played is XI, but I want to try the new remakes, which are coming out fast and furiously. Should I start with I&II or is there no big reason to do them in order?

As an aside, I've been working though the Fire Emblem games and I just finished Fates: Birthright. I would do Conquest but I need to take a break because it wasn't a great experience playing it on an emulator. I wish I hadn't given up my 3DS.

There's a new Fire Emblem coming out on Switch 2. I still haven't bought one but I'll have to now.

Well, for Dragon Quest (esp since you've played XI), I'd start with 3, then do 1, then 2. That's the 'story order'.

You can play them 1, 2 and 3. But I've found I prefer the story in order. Especially with the remakes, which bump up the story and improve on it.

Edit: The Reimagining that launched today (VII) is it's own beast, and not story-related to XI, I, II or III.

Thanks. I wondered why 3 came out before 1 + 2.

It's being made into a TV series.

Playing Alan Wake II right now. The graphics and sounds are amazing, really showcasing the XSX's power. It started out quite slow and a bit of slog, but my last session it seems to have found it's pacing.

Alan Wake II is one of my favourite pieces of media in the past 5 years. What a game.

Turned based strategy with kitties? Instant buy.

It's from the Binding of Isaac dev if you want an idea of the game's style.

I'm in the middle of finishing Control's DLC and Alan Wake 2 is up next. My goal in 2025 was to play through all the Remedy games. I hope to have them all done by the time Control 2 comes out.

There's nothing like it. I don't want to give up anything but no game has ever gone where this game goes at certain parts.

See, I've avoided playing it because any media with the word "horror" anywhere near the genre has never been for me, but I've second-guessed that intuition a few times as people have suggested it.
