Team Canada would still be the favourite for the gold medal without McDavid. Crosby, MacKinnon, Reinhart, Bennett, Suzuki, Marner, Horvat is still better than any other centre depth by a strong margin. And the best player in the world is still there. And so is the 2nd best... And 3rd best (on D).

I would be fine with him having a bad meatball and not being able to play because he can't stop pooping. Nothing too serious.

Those other guys are also far more likely to backcheck (which will be important against the world's top players).

They had some shots of team Canada men's hockey team walking together the other day. Maybe through the airport or one of the facilities? Anyway, McDavid wasn't shown walking with the team. I figure he unsurprisingly has already put himself above the team. Dude is James Neal with rockets strapped to his skates.

When you contrast him directly with entertaining, or even normal personalities, he really does come across very strange. Like can't even take a friendly jab at someone or answer anything in a way that is interesting.

I'm pretty sure we should just be glad he's good at hockey because he otherwise might be a psycho.

When Canada scores and it's McDavid, I'll yell out "YEAH!!!" then rush to the bathroom and throw up.

I just want to see Canada win. I don't care who scores the goals, even if it's McDavid. I know that's an unpopular opinion but I don't seem to have the same hate on for McDavid than others on this board. He's an elite player who is exciting to watch, but I obviously don't like to watch him because he plays for the Oilers. If he didn't I can ensure that myself and many others here would tune into his teams games just to watch him (maybe a few exceptions depending on the team lol).

I will now stress that I am in no way a McDavid fan. Pissy? Yeah I straight up just don't like him, but McDavid is just so milquetoast that I don't really think of him at all. I just want him to jump from the sinking ship that is the Edmonton Oilers.

Anyways, if you want to hate watch McDavid when he's playing for Canada that's your prerogative and I totally understand. Personally the players I'm most excited to be able to support when an international event comes around are Mackinnon and Makar. Ideally someone other than McDavid lights up the tournament and leads us to victory but if McDavid is the one who scores a winning goal or leads in scoring then whatever, I can stomach that if it means gold.

If the media didn't shove mcdavid down every ones throats 24/7 and he displayed any redeeming characteristics whatsoever maybe cheering for him wouldn't be a repulsive proposition.

He just isn't likable and the theatrical embellishment is a bad look for someone is looked at to be an example for fans.

Compare and contrast him and Sidney Crosby and maybe it will start to make sense.

They aren't cut from the same cloth.

McDavid is just so bland.

Who's going to get the most penalty minutes.
"Uh that might be insulting, so I'm not gonna say anyone"

Dude, do you honestly think Tom Wilson, Brad Marchand, or Sam Bennett are gonna be like "Oh he said I'd get the most penalty minutes.. he's so mean".

I'm actually surprised Bennett was the only one of the three that said "Me".

I am not a huge fan of Wilson's antics, but he might be the guy I am most interested in watching. He could be a massive factor, positively or negatively.

Edit: Dammit, I thought I was in the Olympic thread.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Yeah, in fact, there was some slight dislike of Sid right off the bat because of his hype. But because he played in Pittsburgh, and didn't get the Toronto or Edmonton push, and because he wasn't a knob or awkward in any way, we got over it.

Right before Sid hit it big Iginla was the best player in the game (ask Trevor Linden). Was there this kind of hype at all? Nope.

He's been around the game how long and still hasn't figured out banter.

In edmonton they'd call that charismatic.

I would love to see Canada dominate and win gold while McDavid gets pushed down the lineup for his defensive gaffs and lack of defensive awareness and/or effort. And I hope it's obvious, or discussed, why he has been "demoted". That would be my ideal scenario.

I think he's just genuinely an introverted dude, thrust into the leadership/captaincy from that dump of a franchise. And thus, looks perpetually out of place.

Introverted and yet he screams weirdly at his teammates in the room. I doubt you see other awkward guys (like Hamilton) do that.

Oh agreed. I wasn't defending his behavior. In fact I enjoy that he's the face & leader, vs say an actual well spoken vet.

Oh don't get me wrong my friend I'm already well aware, I love Sid. Anyways, I don't want to turn this into a discussion where I'm defending McDavid which I have no interest in doing. I'd much rather get the thread back on track.

3-1 vs oilers this season, suck it Edmonton!

I think he feels pressure as the captain and supposedly greatest player in the game to do something to motivate his team, but has no real idea what to do. That's why he resorts to "weird screams". He just isn't a natural leader.
