Kids are the best. Yes, challenges abound. But they provide so much joy and novel ways of thinking about things and seeing life.
My son was not as quick to take up hockey as Royle's boys but is in his first season now and we are loving it. Just got my daughter skating a few months ago after she finally got interested following Disney on Ice in the fall.
My son wore his flames jersey to school on jersey day in St. Albert. He said there were about 10 total at the school. Proud dad as he told me he wolf howled any time someone boo'd him.

This is a reminder that one does not need to love kids in general to have them; you just need to love your kids.

At some point, our kids become too big for us to carry. As difficult as it may have become, you will miss it when it's gone.

Draft Pick

Has anyone posted a potential roster that is void of Huberdeau, Kadri and Coleman? Curious what that could even look like. With the assumption that no NHL talent is coming back, but something likely would be.

Without Huberdeau's contract, hitting the floor actually becomes a relevant concern. He was actually extremely useful as a contract filler for us.

Jack Finley put on waivers today 6'6 right shot Center and only 23 years old. Former 2nd rd pick , Flames should definitely be picking this guy up for free.

|
Gridin-Frost-Coronato
Farabee-Backlund-Sharangovich
Kerins-Morton-Zary
Lomberg-Pospisil-Klapka
Those are my preferred. However Kirkland and Beecher likely swap in for third line there I suppose

Not that extreme. Coleman is already out and Huberdeau was getting bottom six minutes recently. I'm assuming Frost replaces Kadri on the 2nd line?
The #1 PP unit is going to look pretty different though, without Kadri and Huberdeau.

Even if Huberdeau ends up LTIRetired, his contract will still be on the books and will count towards the cap floor.

Yeah I’m a no on Finley. Not needed. Waiver pickup would require us to have him on the big team and that would just block a lineup spot

Yea, only reason to do this is if they're firesaleing hard... which means part of me does want to see it.
Curious if he makes it all the way through 31 teams though.

I'll join in the kid thread.
46, daughter will be 4 in 10 days. Her love for hockey has brought me down to the Dome more this year than in the previous 10 years.
Funny story. We took her to the Hitmen Paw Patrol game, and she got a poster with a trio of Hitmen on it. She fell in love with one of the players and would sing to him (on the poster) each night wishing he would come alive. Bed time stories now involve her and the three Hitmen (now referred to as her brothers) and she makes sure to say hi/bye to them with a high five, fist bump, chest bump, and kiss.
I'm in danger.

The only real bottom six minutes for Huberdeau was the game against the Leafs. He played poorly and got shelved in the third (maybe he was sore as well). And overall he was maybe 4-5 shifts less than usual. In all, Huberdeau plays less minutes than some other guys but he gets about the same number of shifts. He is just often quicker to change than other guys on his line. Again, maybe because of pain.

Still not willing to try Zary back at C? Woof.
I would rather see this:
Gridin-Frost-Coronato
Farabee-Backlund-Sharangovich
Stromgren-Zary-Klapka
Lomberg-Pospisil-Kirkland
Zary needs to get a good look at C and I think Klapka could provide him some support by being the big guy an making room. Also, I think Klapka should get into the top 9 ahead of Kerins or Morton.
I think giving Stromgren a big look on the third line would also be more interesting than Kerins or Morton. In his limited look he played on the 4th line and I think we'll see more if he gets third line minutes. If he struggles mid-game then you can swap him with Pospisil and move Kirkland to #4C.

I think Beecher was looking a lot better right when he got injured, so if he recovers, he probably plays. But these lines are probably as good as you can get if you are determined not to bring up the leading scorer on the Wranglers because of his age.
