Hellishly boring. Just like Everything Everywhere All it Once. On that one I was at least smart enough to leave for the last half hour to "go to the bathroom" but really I just played on my phone outside the theater. Hated that POS movie.

Scott Pilgrim was the same. Quirky for nerds. Just a totally lame and uncool and unfunny and unentertaining long-ass movie. Sat through the whole thing bored out of my tree.

I 'kind of' watched the mastermind the other night. Had to keep the volume low as people were sleeping, and was a bit distracted. It's a nice film to look at but has been criticized for being too slow. So slow I was able to play a few games of chess at the same time.

So this is pretty much a non-review haha. The music and style was very art house, and I should give it another chance.

####ing great. As one prominent reviewer put it, "it's the best worst time you'll have". Had to go back and finally see it after watching Marty Supreme. Similar tone and pacing. I was shook.

I'm a Sam Raimi fan, and this was a highly entertaining movie but I wouldn't call it a good movie. It really flip flopped in tone and I wasn't sure what it was trying to be. Random milking of projectile blood and mucus felt awkward, like it suited the Evil Dead franchise, but I'm not sure it fit here. Regardless, it was fun yet dumb. Bad CGI (like marginally better than sharknado at points). I did like the leads a lot.

More dumb fun. At least it knew what it was trying to be. Had a gore scene that was executed hysterically. Having a pet chimp with nothing to defend yourself should it go rogue/mad is extraordinarily poor planning.

What are some of the better pre-Brosnan James Bond movies?

I was never much of a fan, and looking through the list I can only recall seeing two or three from the Moore, Dalton, Lazenby, or Connery eras.

I watched Casino Royal the other day, and had forgotten how good it was: just a simple spy flick--a spy and his gun. All I remember from the final Brosnan movie was the cloaking device on his car and something about a space laser that was going to melt the world. I dunno, I never looked back after seeing it in theatres.

I cant really answer your initial question, but I have controversial taste in Bond movies.

Personally? I loved GoldenEye. However, I maintain that SkyFall is the best Bond movie. I loved SkyFall.

Thunderball with Connery was always my fave. It was one of the first movies to have underwater action.

2.5/5 - Thought it was pretty meh all around. Nothing really interesting in this one, didn't feel like the movie really did any one thing that well. Acting was good I guess, given what their was.

Watched Drive and Baby Driver back to back last night, as my partner was down with a migraine.

I think I've watched Drive 5-6 times, and I enjoy it every time. The Soundtrack is SO good, as is the cinematography and acting. I love how it just gets more intense as it goes on, but you still get those quiet moments in between. It reminded me that I need to watch more movies with Carey Mulligan.

This was only my second watch of Baby Driver, but man it's so good. Entertaining, funny, intense. Also a really good soundtrack. Because I'd only seen it once before, I had forgotten some of the key points in the movie and so it was good to experience those again.

For Connery Bond movies I prefer Goldfinger and From Russia With Love
The Moore movies are all super campy one way or another, but The Man With the Golden Gun (Christopher Lee as the bad guy? Yes please!) and Moonraker (Bond in space!) are my go to's.

Tomorrow Never Dies is underrated from the Brosnan-era because the next two are pure crap. But the bad guy has a pretty realistic and interesting plan, and Michelle Yeoh is awesome as the Bond-girl that can kick ass.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a criminally underrated Bond movie - it gets overlooked because Lazenby only played him the one time, but it's one of the best of the series.

Can't go wrong with From Russia With Love, Goldfinger or For Your Eyes Only.

Thunderball with Conery is also fantastic, it contains multitudes.


Moonraker, for fun, and the all the Austin Powers references they stuffed in it.

A History of Violence might be close? It sorta migrates from genre to genre as well: small-town drama becomes crime thriller becomes existential tragedy. Same sorta thing where the film is allowed to become something else without announcing it.

"The Handmaiden" (2016) by Park Chan-Wook does some really wild genre switches. Highly recommended, it's very entertaining. Borderline porn at times though, something you might want to consider when deciding the company you watch it in

"Whistle" was a lot of fun. Borrows heavily from final destination but less goofy. Some effective gore too. No idea why Nick Frost was in this but I enjoy any amount of time that man is on screen.

If it was released around the time of the early final destination/ikwydls/scream movies I could have seen it spawning its own saga.

I kind of want a sequel now. 7/10
