is there an advantage of going through a broker vs going directly through the company?
(For Intact home, for example, I'm getting the same online quote directly or thru BrokerLink)

I've never used a broker, but had a broker at all state recommended. It was much easier than calling into a call centre and being spending an hour talking to somebody who knows nothing about insurance

I'm also with TD Melloche Monnex and this month they decided to raise my home insurance from $193.03/mo to $235.45/mo. It's been steadily going up over the past 2 years but now I really have to start looking around and switch.

If anyone has recent recommendations, post 'em up.

I got an AUPE discount from The Personal and saved something like 75% from TD with identical coverage and deductibles. TD was obscene.

Good luck!

Ditto. Saw a big decrease in home/auto with them. I don’t know how big a difference the professional association discount works out to be, but we used ours.

Damn, this is so painful. Lot of companies don't even have a contact email, you have to use their online forms and slowly hit dropdowns and fill everything out. Then they ask you to call because they need additional information, or try to get you to use the automated chat which is a waste of time. I can jump on the computer at work quick to send an email but I can't be on the phone for large chunks of time.

There's a reason why people put this off.

Went to All State and saved 50% over TD on 2 cars and home with a lower deductible

Yeah, it’s an introverts nightmare. On the bright side, cancelling TD was pretty quick and painless.

It's just the time involved, repeating the same information, address, name, email, vehicle information, details on your property over and over again all while on a cell connection. Fuuuuuuuuuuck!
