I agree, Corsi, I was more replying to the idea that he can be discounted because of "6 games scoreless".

Hyman is a really good player that can play effectively with really good players. I'm slightly dubious of citing the production stats of a guy who's riding shotgun with the dude who once turned Pat Maroon into a 27 goal scorer but I would be willing to bet that him being a really solid dude that lots of their players seem to like playing with is a big factor here.

Regardless, I think it's champagne problems, I'd be willing to bet if you stuck Bedard (or Johnston, or Scheifele, or Jarvis) on 97s wing they'd be just fine. Remember when Chris Kunitz went bar down comedically hard in the gold medal game back in 2014?

Personally I'd love to see Bedard out here with some of the big dogs rather than guys like Bertuzzi, guy is just so much fun to watch.

Honestly it kind of seems like 'Bedard is young' and so he'll get another chance, so they're favouring other players who may not get another shot. Which...if we're talking 'Best on Best' shouldn't matter. You take your best.

Didn’t they pass on Crosby in his rookie season too?

Not that I dislike Hyman as a player but I mostly dont want him on the team because then he likely eats a slot on McDavid's line and I would like to see him play with other stars

And Stamkos in his 2nd season, when he scored 51 goals.

I feel so bad for stamkos. He missed that, then when he was an absolute lock he broke his leg on the post… missed what ended up being his only chance at an Olympics. Crazy to say for a player of his level. Sucks.

He was not great either last year nor at the beginning of this season....his exclusion is on him and his play regardless of how he is going now.

IMO the much bigger snub is Scheiffle who is a better player than Bedard at this point ....at both ends of the ice.

Clearly some internal HC politics involved which is common every time these teams are assembled.

Bedard was top 5 in the league in scoring when he got hurt, ahead of Celebrini in P/gp at that time, how was he not good at the beginning of this season?

It’s not the 24-25 season. It’s 25-26.

Its almost like there are other aspects to hockey that coaching staffs and management consider when evaluating players other that points.

I suspect Hockey Canada thinks just being named to the team is the real honour, and winning medals is an afterthought. Like being named to Team Canada is the equivalent of an Oscar for ‘lifetime achievement’.

Sure but he wasn't bad to start the season at all, even defensively.

He was dragging Chicago in the games almost single handedly to start the year, and it's why they fell off dramatically once he got hurt.

Last year - 100% he was poor.

This year - hes been impactful in positive ways right from the start of the season.

If McDavid wasn't banking pucks in off Hyman no one would ever even consider him for the team. "Net front presence" isn't a good enough reason to be on the Olympic team.

Chris Kunitz says hello. Amongst other questionable decisions over the years.
