I posted this in october 2024, it's relevant again now!

I looked it up, the last NHL player-coach was Doug Harvey of the Rangers in 1961. Fun little article about it if you're bored
Tell me the Oilers organization wouldn't LOVE the media attention they'd get for having the first player-coach in 63 years. Rogers would release an absolute deluge of articles, videos, social media posts non-stop for the entirety of McDavid's coaching tenure. The clicks. The eyeballs.
They so would.

We just need Colorado or Minnesota to beat Dallas, to avoid another Oilers cup finals.
Those losers on Dallas will let them win again. And the Pacific seems awful.

Edmonton fan sites keep indicating oilers are looking at Mcmann out of TO or Jenner out of Columbus. Every Edmonton fan always includes eatbread as part of a trade. Why do they think teams want their garbage?

At this point, according to Moneypuck, the Oilers are almost as likely to miss the playoffs entirely (18.2%) as to make the conference finals (23.5%). Eight teams are in the mix for five playoff spots (including all three Pacific divisional seeds), all in a range from 56 to 64 points at the moment.
I'm not particularly worried about the Oilers making the finals again. They haven't got the horses, and Jarry isn't going to bail them out.

“ 5. I don’t know if I’ve ever been prouder of Connor McDavid.
Great player.
Great captain.
Great Oiler.
Great Edmontonian.
Great Canadian”.
Barf.
I would bet good money that Staples wrote both the original McDavid piece AND the story in the Journal.

A lucky goal after an invisible 4 nations and a Worlds 8 years ago is the only thing he has ever won. I doubt Canada wins gold this time, because McDavid. Maybe Sid can still carry it. That guy knows winning. I don't know

Oh boy. Things seem to be deteriorating for Tristan Jarry in Edmonton. Did you see his comments after getting pulled from a 7-3 loss to Minnesota on Saturday?
|
Quote:
This is what he told reporters after his latest brutal performance since coming from Pittsburgh, one in which he allowed three “questionable” goals (sportsnet.ca’s euphemism):
“It’s tough. The chances we’re giving up, some of the shots, they’re tough. It’s a lot of Grade A’s, a lot of breakdowns.”
Put that through the what-he-should-have-said translator, and it comes out like this: “I was terrible. They brought me here to win games. I have to be better.”
Jarry was allergic to big games here. The difference now is he’s in a Cup-or-bust situation. That creates a new kind of pressure.
His comments didn’t get any better as he spoke.
“We want to play fast … we want to play in their end,” Jarry said. “When we’re taking some of those chances, they come back at us, and it’s tough. We just have to make sure we’re managing the puck a little bit better.”
Wow. I can’t imagine those quotes going over well in Oilers country. Not with Jarry’s numbers attached to them. He has an .836 save percentage in his past five games and .873 overall. Over a full season that wouldn’t be top-50 in the NHL.
Meanwhile, Stuart Skinner — the goalie in return — is becoming a fan favorite here. He went 7-1 with a .910 save percentage in January..
|
Jarry has no one to blame but himself. He had trade protection and agreed to go to Edmonton. That media and fan base is going to chew him up and teach goalies why you don't willingly go to Edmonton. Meanwhile, I couldn't be happier for Skinner.

The end of the article is nice
Quote:
Penguins president of hockey operations/GM Kyle Dubas looks like a winner by knockout, at least so far. He picked the perfect time to trade Jarry. He also got Brett Kulak, who’s been helpful, and a second-round pick. The Oilers got Sam “Throw In” Poulin.
Dubas deserves jail time for that kind of robbery.
|
Also really pleased for Skinner. Loved his interviews. Never shied away from the tough ones. Never threw team under bus. I'm sure he is becoming a fan fav in Pitt.
A good news way to start my day

Meanwhile, the goalie who escaped that no good #### hole is having a resurgence.
