I want to see how he does in his last two games at the AHL level. It's a super small sample size, but he's leading the A in pts/game for defenseman right now. In some ways, because that league is brand new to him, producing so quickly is more impressive. That small sample size is why I hope he plays in both games this weekend. If he continues playing well and putting up numbers, I feel it's time to take off the kid gloves and let him play regularly in the NHL for the remainder of the season.

IIRC the Flames are also able to request an extension of 2 more games in the AHL if the player agrees to it are they not?

I agree on the 7D 11F front, but he doesn't need to be heavily sheltered when the season is toast IMO. Obviously feed him PP time and avoid the worst DZ starts where possible, but he should be playing 12-14 minutes regardless so that he can start figuring it out.

Just noticed Saginaw Spirit are in the 8th and final playoff spot in their conference, 9 pts up on the next team. So Saginaw season likely extends at least into the first round of the playoffs

As long as Saginaw is playing, Parekh can’t be sent to the Wranglers again. Saginaw’s regular season ends on March 21. OHL playoffs start on March 26th

I see a player that feeds off confidence.

Need the shifts to be successful to some degree.

I'd limit his 5 on 5 time to start and let him knock the door down.

Anybody else remember the debate in 2014 as to whether Crosby or Toews should be captain in Sochi?

Sounds ridiculous with hindsight.

Not to mention who should have been captain and wasn't even named to the team...

I don't remember that being much of a debate. Crosby in his prime was a no-brainer.

He's going to have to learn to play in all scenarios at some point. Might as well learn and have mistakes now when it doesn't matter vs when it does.

I don't see the player as built that way.

I think he needs success to build a foundation so you can deploy a confident player in more situations and then see the growth.

I think the throw him to the wolves method fails in this case.

Totally agree. And I think Huska, Conroy et all knew that before us, in his sheltered deployments at the beginning of the season.

It was a debate in the media. Crosby was named Captain, and the first thing he did apparently was to call Toews and make sure that Toews was ok with it. I always thought it was super weird, as I always felt that Toews was always over-hyped.

NHL only for Parekh from here on out is my understanding.

1) He's subject to transfer agreement, so he wouldn't be eligible (normally) to go to AHL until OHL team is done. BUT...
2) AHL roster rule from trade deadline onwards is that you need to be on AHL roster as of deadline to be moved down from NHL from there on out. AND...
3) He wasn't on Saginaw's roster as of CHL roster deadline.

These rules are such nonsense...
They actively hurt a player's development in this situation.

Maybe he can suffer another "injury" prior to the deadline and then go down on a conditioning assignment in order to go back after the OHL season.

Or play him at NHL

First 12 to 14 games the whole team was crap

Not with 7d and play him limited role

Dress 6d and have him on the 3rd pairing with PP time

So because he was not on the CHL roster he isn't eligible for the AHL playoffs regardless if the Spirit and Flames are done? Yeah that isn't ideal.

Just kinda thinking out loud here but I'd love it if the Flames brought in Gio as a member of their player development staff specifically to work Parekh and Bru. I know he's in a coaching role with the Marlies right now but maybe that changes at the end of the season.

Parekh seems to be fitting in on the Wranglers. Massive disservice to him that he couldn’t play the year there. That rule should be changed.
