Perhaps you can tell the difference, but I don't think most people can.
I saw a taste test on 20/20 once that had all these vodka snobs and Greygoose actually ended up getting the lowest grade. Smirnoff did quite well and I think Belve did the best. IMO, vodka is one of the hardest drinks to tell apart by brand.

Vodka and Tonic with a slice of lemon might be worth a try. I really haven't developed a taste for Gin so the Vodka makes a good substitution.
Very Refreshing!!

200 bucks a month? Were your friends disappearing too?

I can't believe I'm the first one to post this... (if I actually am, I didn't look too close)

Girl Drink Drunk!

That's what some of you guys are trying to turn this youngster into. We can't have that.

The best advice so far is to drink Corona -- all the benefits (it's beer, it's cheap, it's easy, it's not what granny drinks at bridge games) but it doesn't make you all bloated like rookie beer drinkers get.

The worst advice is "stay home and save your money". If you want to go out and have fun, do it. You are too young to be worried about your savings account. How much money can you be saving when you are 18 anyway? You can't be making all that much in the first place, and your parents probably pay the real bills.

I blew lots of money on that kind of thing when I was younger and I don't have a single regret. Well, a financial one, anyway.

I always tell the bartender to give me an aspargus spear.

You want spicy? Might also want to try a bit of horseradish in your ceaser. It gives it a nice kick.

I love aspargus or a pea pod. I had no idea you could ask! I was in Fairmont this weekend and they gave me two stuffed olives. My facial expression after biting into it was not pretty!! Yuck.

lol my expression what have been, "Are you serious?" "Get with the program and give me an aspargus spear" Giving someone olives is just blasphomey

Years ago I was Stateside visiting my brother in Minneapolis. Went out to this bar and the bartender said he never heard of Ceasers. Proceeded to give him a lesson on how to make them. The dude was hooked after I showed him. Next trip they were serving Ceasers AND it was a very popular drink amongst the locals.

I have to say, I must concur with our resident maritimer, Keith's (aka 'Keetz') is the way to go. It is definately my beer of choice. Thats not to say that this is the case for everyone. You just gotta try a few out and see if you like them.

I also must agree that cheaping out on liquor is a serious 'faux pas' for the beginner. Once you have toughened yourself to the world of drink you might consider it, but if you want to get into something you like then I wouldnt recommend it, at least stick to middle grade stuff.

Personally, I have friends that are broke all the time, we go to a party and hit up a liquor store, they will buy cheap beer (Lucky) and I will still buy a case of Keith's, whats the difference? About $10 max, usually about $5-7, and how much you enjoy the rest of your night.

If you're drinking to get drunk then buy hard liquor and drink it straight. Cheap and easy, but you may not like where you end up. If you're drinking to have a good time, be prudent about it and buy something you actually like so you dont make that horrible face when you go for the next drink.

Again, its all personal preference, to be honest, I love going down to my neighborhood pub with all my buddies and watching a Flames game. You have your supper and you split a few jugs, its a great way to kill a weeknight or a saturday night and its really not all that expensive. Or, go to a buddy's house and buy a case of something you like (beware the moocher, but thats a topic for another time) and enjoy it that way. Or maybe you just dont want to drink, its all personal preference.

As for the "dont drink, save your money and buy a house" crowd. I must disagree. I could drink my face off everynight until I'm 50 (I'm nowhere near half that BTW) and it wouldnt add up to anything significant in comparison to the price of a house in Calgary, and I already have enough cars. You're only young once, dont waste it by either drinking too much, or too little.

And Now, Maritime-Q-Scout I'm off to fetch me another Keiths.

Locke.

For a guy named "Mr. Fish" you sure don't drink like one...

Here's a beer for beer haters, I guarantee you will love it if you hate beer, go to Limerick's and order yourself a pint for dessert, it's like a strawberry smoothie:

After you've eased yourself in with these, try Brewster's Raspberry, then Wild Rose "WRaspberry" and Sleeman's Honey Brown. All of these are leaning on the fruity/sweet side and you will acquire a taste for real beer eventually as you move along the taste scale.
