agent has been given permission to talk to teams about extension
Capitals have interest if an extension is in place because they aren't in a playoff spot currently.
Panarin's agent has reached out to all 3 California teams.
Ducks are out right now because extension doesn't make sense for them right now with young guys needing new contracts. Would be more interested if it was just a rental.
Sharks have had a discussion but beyond the conversation LeBrun isn't sure SJ is very serious after acquiring Sherwood.
LA needs a C more than winger with Kopitar retiring. Holland just hanging in there to see where it goes. Sense is Kings aren't pushing that hard.
Hurricanes have talked about it. LeBrun struggles with if Dundon will dole out the money for extension and if Panarin fits with Canes' style of play.
Panthers are probably #1 on Panarin's list but how do they fit him in with their cap situation.
Friedman reporting that Panarin wants Florida but not sure if it could happen, since he's looking for an extension in the 50 million range. Friedman thinks the Kings, Sharks, and Wings are still in the mix.

Lebrun isn't sure SJ is serious after acquiring Sherwood?
Panarin and Sherwood are not competing for the same role on the roster. Looks like they're both left wing but one can probably switch sides or Sherwood bumps down one line. That is a simple problem to solve.
I can't seriousily imaging saying no to a 1st line winger because you just acquired a middle 6 winger.

This is why the Sherwood trade made no sense for them IMO
They needed a top 4 dman or top 6 forward, instead they went and traded two 2nds for a bottom 6 forward who is 30 years old (soon to be 31) and requires a contract extension that's for sure going to be an overpay based on him riding a shooting percentage bender.
And now because they spent those assets there, they have fewer assets for other deals that were more critical for them long term.

I'm glad they are so shortsighted like the Oilers. Not a fan of the Sharks and hope they fail.

The BT move !
Bleed assets for meh players instead of getting the stud by using those assets +

I don't know... sherwood is a player who will be a pain in the ass to play against and the Sharks while being very good are a relatively soft team. Sherwood should be able to be a player who can be a fly in the ointment and have some grit that will help the team be better able to find a way to win tough games.
Two second round picks are nice pieces but that isn't the centerpiece in a trade for an elite player.

I heard that Fox is returning soon. Might slow down the Rangers' tank effort by a bit. But if Panarin, that'll likely cancel it out. Shesterkin is apparently skating, but not practicing with the team. I wonder if they sell on anyone other than Panarin...
Agent is in the driver seat and wants extension as part of the deal.
Same agent that negotiated Kaprizov's contract (biggest NHL deal in history)
Ask is $50 million. 4x$12.5 million or 5x$10 million whichever way the team prefers.
Agent and player are looking for a homerun but might not get to that number
Colorado has interest but can't do an extension. Only can do it as a rental.
Panarin willing to go to the Stars, but as long as it is their goal to re-sign Robertson (which Friedman believes is the case) they can't do this
Also heard Dallas is concerned about their prospect pool and doesn't want to trade a 1st round pick.
That may change but that is where it sits right now
Think the Kings have considered this but
Kings seem to be having internal discussions about whether to spend assets for short term gain and wrestled with if Panarin truly makes sense for them
In theory can see Seattle putting Wright+ for Panarin
But not sure how Panarin feels about it (Friedman seems to think it is unlikely)
Washington only doing it with extension - not interested in rental
Other teams think that the Caps have been aggressive
Friedman considers them legit
Canes always a player in these type of things.
One of the reasons Rantanen didn't work out was that he didn't fit stylistically with the way they play
How do they feel Panarin will fit in?
Thinks they are in but doesn't know how to handicap their likelihood
He really wants to go to the Panthers.
If Zito really wants to do it, he will move heaven and earth.
Friedman doesn't see Zito doing an extension close to the numbers being asked.
Torn on San Jose, think they are in it
Think Panarin is interested.
Biggest thing is what are you going to pay Celebrini? Answer is whatever he wants.
Hears mixed things about - how much desire there is on both sides
A bunch of people told him that SJ aren't front runners but they aren't out
definitely thinks Detroit is interested
Yzerman doesn't like rentals
Ducks were willing to trade for Panarin 1st then see the fit and if they wanted to extend him
Agent said extension first.
So right now Ducks are a no.
Doesn't know how Wild can pay Kaprizov and Panarin and extend Quinn Hughes
Vegas - doesn't know how on earth they can do an extension
Though the might not admit it, Utah might be big game hunters
If Kaprizov got to open market, thinks Philly was going to bid on him.
Could see them doing this too.
Kevin Weekes mentioned Toronto, Friedman heard Toronto last week but checked into and was told no.
May have looked into it but not likely for them
Teams that want an extension with trade: WSH, LAK, CAR, SJS, DET
Still a couple of days away from trade.
Panarin has to figure out where he wants to go - is he chasing biggest contract? or location etc.
Then Rangers have to negotiate the trade
Lots of conflicting information out there

So he’s blocking the market. I do hope it’s eventually to a team in the east. That will start the arms race and I think there are teams in east with better assets to trade for Kadri than those in west.
