It is interesting because it was rumored the Habs were a team he wanted to go to when his name was first popping up after the terrible start. I know it was Kypreos who is not the most connected guy out there

Dino is probably right (he did the same for Calgary prior to his Colorado trade), but it's also true that earlier this year Kadri stated (per Kypreos) that he would go to Toronto or Montreal.

I'm pretty sure if I was in the NHL my NTC would have Edmonton on it too
If Carolina actually is an option that would be intriguing.
If you take back Kotkaniemi you don't need to retain any salary for sure. They have the 2026 Dallas 1st, their own in 2027, and in 2028 they have Dallas 1st and their Own.
Also some interesting prospects.
Charlie Cerrato, and Ivan Ryabkin as centers from last years draft - Cerrato is playing with McKenna at Penn State and having a good season, Rybakin is dominating the Q since being sent down there from the AHL.
Nadeau and Unger-Sorum are both gaving success in the AHL and the org does lack RH shots.
|
I would take the 2026 1st + Kotkaniemi for Kadri.
Anything else is just a cherry

I think if want one of those prospect pieces.
2026 1st + Ryabkin + Kotkaniemi for Kadri wouldn't be bad

would rather hang up the phone with Car if they try to put Kotkaniemi in any proposal. Oh boy an anchor 4th liner signed for longer than Kadri.

If he has Montreal on his list, then this probably means he is fine with going to the USA, and lots of what has been speculated wasn't actually a concern.
Toronto - doubt they are buying at this point. More speculation about them potentially selling, or at least holding onto their assets.
Ottawa - I can see them buying, but they don't have a need for a center like Kadri, and they don't have much in the way of assets.
Winnipeg - I think they will rise in the standings and even potentially make the playoffs, but I can't see them as buyers at this point. However, they could really use an upgrade there over Toews - so potentially?
Edmonton - doubt Kadri wants to play for them. Doubt Edmonton wants to tie that much cap up in another aging vet.
Vancouver - selling.
With Montreal being on the no-trade list, then really the only real potential landing spot is in Winnipeg, and that's a question mark. I can't see him trying to actually force a trade to Winnipeg.
I think Colorado is a potential destination. If the Flames retain 2 million, that brings him down to 5 million which is probably manageable for them. That's just over 6 million total left on retention for the rest of his contract, and that seems manageable (I don't see 50% -- the cost would be too high). No idea what Colorado would give up for Kadri @5M a season, but they don't have much in their prospect pipeline. William Zellers and picks?
Interesting draft strategy for Colorado - in the 2024 draft, they picked 3 goalies, including one with their first pick (2nd and two 5th round picks used). Calgary picks one goalie prospect every other year, unless someone of value pops up (like the year they drafted Parsons). I wonder if they were picking value there, or trying to plug up a leak organizationally? Interesting stuff.

I'd absolutely love Ryabkin in any deal with Carolina. Max retention for a 2nt, Kotkaniemi and Ryabkin seems on the low end but likely where we'd be at. In that area .

Alternative deal with a James: Coleman to Tampa for Dominic James + 2028 1st round pick.

Calgary is going to have a tough time reaching the floor if they don't have ongoing salary from a player like this. So really, the salary doesn't matter at all if it'll get a deal done with a fair return.
If Carolina wants something of value for Kotkaniemi, then yeah, forget about it.

Alternatively, I wonder if Kadri to the Isles is a thing. The bridesmaid becomes the bride finally.

I read speculation somewhere that the Isles might move the package they got for Nelson for a C, Ritchie + 1st, get it done.

I think we will not receive 1st for Coleman unless we take back salary dump. May be 2nd + a prospect is my expectation.

Montreal owes the Flames "future considerations" from the Monahan trade.
Hopefully they don't grind too much in the negotiations and do the Flames a solid if they actually want Kadri.

Oh man....how great would it be to un-Treliving that trade and get a 1st back for Kadri from Montreal. I guess Montreal is still up a 1st, as they got one to take Monahan on and another when they traded him away.

Take JK back to maximize return
If you can get nikishin out of Carolina, start the car. Kadri for Jk and Nikishin? Lessgo!

That old boys club is gonzo. The days of Fletcher Quinn and Caron helping one another out is history. Today’s GMs are out to screw one another on deals, which is why so few are made, outside of rentals.
Hughes will have no obligation to help us out. And the deal he made was with the wizard so even less incentive for him to help now that he’s gone.
