It's really about timing I guess. Suppposedly studies have shown that men are more likely to be stuck on music significant to/from their adolescent years.
So guys who were in their teens at the height of those punk bands at the turn of the millennium (who probanly won't be revered as musical savants by historians by any means but were then prominent in their genre) are more likely to have a soft spot for those artists.
There is a lot of gen x'ers here that grew up with Bad Religion and jive with them way more and that's fair. I couldn't care less about Bad Religion but I won't speak ill of the fact that they were an influence with people 10-20 years our senior. I hope those people get the same joy out of it.
We all have our groups that send us back and only our peers who had similar tastes will fully understand.
They aren't my favorite by any means but a couple of those albums were fire if pop punk was your thing around that time.

Did any of you punks go see FEAR at Dickens on Sunday? Fun show and it was cool to see Danny and the Mother####ers again.

You generally sit at Ironwood. Won’t be loud.

Add them to the list of bands that couldn’t sell out the Grey Eagle before COVID and now sell out the dome at $200/ticket. Much like Sum 41, Deftones, Papa Roach, and Korn.

I was out and about yesterday and had a nice refresher listen to "Pretty Fly For a White Guy". I stand by every word I say about Offspring, that song is nuclear dog####.
I own Ignition and Smash, decent albums at the time. They're smart guys and good songwriters but to fully commit to the novelty, joke song path is unforgiveable. The Rob Schneider "You Can Do It!" sample is high order cringe. It's so bad.

Not sure the Deftones belong on this list, but agree with the rest

I think Mils nearing or hitting 40 is making people nostalgic and COVID essentially cancelling touring for 2 years hiked up the appetite for going to shows again.
With an honorable mention of all the atrocious gen-z pop artist covers of that period of music making people want to rinse out their ears with the original stuff.

You're going to hate on a band because the mainstream took to their joke songs specifically? Sounds like a mainstream audience peculiarity than something wrong with the Offspring. lol god forbid a group have fun with their crafted-for-radio singles with the sampling craze that was going on across genres then.
in the 90s/2000s we were a horde of degenerate skaters, so it tracks. There was a lot of unserious music around that time, but it was our unserious music. I mean Eminem's bleach blond slim shady was the most popular character on the planet.
What's funny is I haven't had their 'joke anthems' in my offspring rotation for years, but people I know are going just to hear those. It must be a nostalgia thing for them because those songs have undeniably awful repeat value. Will be great for a one-time, "F IT" headbanger though.
Music doesn't have to be serious.
