Hell yeah, the L-1011 has always been one of my favourites going back to being a kid. Still 1 type kicking around in the US too.

I was lucky enough to take one to Hawaii as a kid, and it stands out as the best flying experience of my life. That thing was so bloody cool.

Jealous. Never been on a trijet, and that would be my #1 pick

That timeline sounds optimistic, judging by what they have vs where they need to be.

And can carry 60 to 80 passengers. For comparison the Concorde was between 90 and a max of 128 but mostly configured for about 100.

Boom doesn't even have an engine, and they are pivoting to the powerplant now being used for data centres. The plane isn't happening.
Bring back the Tu-144.

Had a feeling that would happen when the government allowed more slots from the UAE.

They can fly through Russia while WestJet cannot; flying through Russia is the only way this route is feasible on the 787.
That's not to say WestJet would have launched DXB if Russian airspace wasn't closed to them.

Zero chance they are utilizing the A380 on the route.

This is your area of expertise so yeah I would go with your view. Was just pointing out what they have listed on their website. Is it just # of people that they wouldn't be able to fill A380 up?

Etihad will use a two-cabin Boeing 787-9 for the route, including 28 business class seats and 262 economy class seats. The new flight is already bookable, directly through etihad.com, or via your preferred online travel agency.

Expertise? Lol no, just a casual nerd for this stuff since I was a kid.
But yeah, the A380 is just too much capacity for our market. Or you'd operate it once a week, but then you don't have as much flexibility for your potential customers versus a smaller aircraft and more flights per week.

I'm sure the runways can handle it, does YYC have any A380 accessible gates?
