Someone finally saying it out loud.
Quote:

OTTAWA — B.C. Premier David Eby says that a reported meeting between individuals in the Alberta separatist movement and White House officials amounts to “treason.”
|
Quote:

Mitch Sylvestre, who is spearheading the petition for a referendum, said on Jan. 23 he doesn’t think anyone in his movement wants to join the U.S.

Yeah right. 99% of them would sell their own kids for a chance to lick Trump's nuts.

It would be nice if we had a premier who would actually shut this separatist stuff down instead of "ho hum let me chuckle and squint my eyes while babbling about sovereign Alberta in a united Canada" nonsense

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't these idiots have to represent Alberta or Canada in some official capacity for it to be considered treason? The only people these guys represent are other brainless idiots. Not that I don't think they're traitors. They absolutely are. I'm just not sure they could be arrested at the moment, considering there are no details whatsoever other than what they're claiming.
I'm also highly skeptical that they've actually been meeting with "high level officials" as they claim. Like everything else that comes out of their mouths, I'm guessing it's a big load of horses*** meant to drum up support for their stupid petition. Notice how they never give any details about anything when asked. It's always just "we've had meetings and they're very excitied!" Same goes for any details on a plan for what happens if Alberta were to actually separate. I think their entire goal is just to get it to a vote. But beyond that? No plan. No details. Nothing.
They may have met with someone, but it was probably some low level nobody like George Costanza- assistant to the travelling secretary.

Elect a separatist, get separatism. No one should be surprised by the direction here.

In some good news, it appears that the lawsuit against the Breakdown has been dismissed (I think)... I hope that's the end of it, but I think MH care has way more taxpayer $$ to keep this up for quite a while.

That wasn't how I read the letter. The letter referenced only the costs associated with the injunction application (holy crap that's expensive) not the overall defamation suit.

Correct. The referenced decision was only dealing with the application for an interlocutory (in the mean time) injunction. The main action is still ongoing.
And, sad as it is, I find those costs to be quite reasonable for this sort of application. Litigation is expensive.

Jason Kenney has been extremely opinionated against the Alberta separatist movement and the North MAGA crowd.
One think you cannot fault him for is his patriotism.

Lamenting the lunatics taking over the asylum when you're the one that turned over the keys to them rings pretty hollow to me. Bringing in the Maple MAGA crowd to "unite the right" and thinking they wouldn't take over the party is the arrogant thinking that has left us in his situation.
Would I rather have Kenney than Smith? Sure. Can Kenney still go #### himself for being a gullible patsy in this whole mess. Yes.

The leader of Alberta’s United Conservative Party says there are benefits to a newly elected legislature member having worked on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
Jason Kenney has spoken out against the U.S. president’s protectionist economic stances and says he’s made it clear he’s not a fan.
But Kenney says Devin Dreeshen got good experience on a winning political campaign, and has made useful contacts with the administration.

Jason, you helped normalize this stuff. I'm sorry the leopards then ate your face, but if you expect the public to take your comments seriously, you really have to own up to all of your own failures that got us here.

It is a smart play by Kenney. I am not sure I believe him at all but it is a good political move to position him as a reasonable alternative to PP, especially while the Federal Cons are meeting in Alberta and PP's leadership is being questioned.
Think about it from a Federal Conservative perspective for a moment. If something happens in Alberta, two things will happen to the Federal Conservatives:
1) A big chunk of them will lose their jobs as there will no longer be need for any of those MP seats as the MLAs will be the highest level of government in Alberta.
2) The Federal party will lose their biggest block of unwavering support. All of those free conservative Alberta seats will disappear from Ottawa and make it that much harder to ever form a federal conservative government again.

Canada needs to change the clarity act to require that only a provincial government can initiate separation to avoid unauthorized, unaccountable separatists from promising the moon with no repercussions. Also require a second vote once negotiations have been held.
