Lots of teams talk trade before they even put out formal offers, there's significant back and forth for days/weeks typically.
I'd wager we need those real offers, and then they have to be worth pulling the trigger "early" before the deadline, otherwise there's no sense rushing it. I'd argue it might be advantageous to wait and see which teams end up with hurt players at the Olympics and may be forced to make moves for higher prices.

We have the goalie but my biggest fear is he turns into Markstrom in the playoffs. He's a genuine starter in the regular season, he's proved that.
|
I honestly don't think Parekh will ever be a 1D. If he turns into a Bouchard that's a huge win. If he pans out it will likely be as a really good offensive d that you have to live with his mistakes. There's a reason he fell to us. If he had 1D potential he would have gone higher.
Wolf I have more faith in becoming a star goalie but it's not a guarantee either.
Calgary has a chance to land their first legit core piece this year and hopefully they maximize that pick.

Have to wait for an arms race to begin. That will put pressure on GMs to act if rivals are loading up.
Soucy and palat aren’t pieces that will spur more activity. Agree with dis that post Olympics we will get a spike in activity.

How many of those are repeat calls from Treliving trying to send us his rowboats for our battleships?

Yeah that one is a head scratcher
Shows how valuable Whitecloud and Weegar would be though, teams go crazy looking for reliable RH dmen
Edit: I for some reason always thought Chiarot was a RH dman...retaining him as a LH dman when hes bad already and those are much easier to replace makes even less sense.

Kadri had 75 points two seasons ago. 2nd best point total of his career. I think the grind of the Flames being a really challenged team offensively has started to weigh on both him and Weegar. They might be realizing what the Flames are, and that they only have so many years left.

Yeah, I didn't mean it was automatic one good year one bad. I mean he can have pretty different results in successive years. Or even within a season - like the big drop off at the end of his first year in Calgary.

To be fair, the other poster said number 1 goalie. I don't think you need a truly elite goalie to win the cup. Just needs to make timely saves and not let the pressure get to them in the big moments.
I think he's absolutely a core piece, as is Cole Reschny, but he tops at second line centre, pretty much a good replacement for prime Backlund. Coronato is a core piece.
These guys are all gonna be key contributors if we are good, I can't see them going anywhere. We do need a star in this draft though, a guy who really puts bums in seats.

I honestly don't think he's a very good defender, and he got propped up by his goalies this year. Trading Walman + 2nd to SJS, and electing to keep Chiarot was a crazy decision IMO.

Surely you agree that there is a lot of space between teams offering a 4th and a 5th and meeting Calgary's desired price?
Maybe they are offering a 2nd for Coleman. Do you make that deal now or hold out for something better?

I was making a joke in reference to the offers being bad for Kadri. I don't legitimately think that was the offer or an actual call.

Birds will fly, fish will swim, and the Detroit Red Wings will sign bad defensemen to worse contracts.
I always thought it was a Ken Holland thing, but maybe there's just something in the water in Michigan.

After missing out on Andersson (they had talks with Calgary and missed out because it was a rental only option and not a long term re-signing), I was told today that the Sharks have interest in Weegar (among other right shooting defenseman: Hamilton, Connor Murphy, Carlson are some names I was given).

The team is sixth place in the entire NHL. Ben Chiarot is playing over 20 minutes a game, mostly with a rookie defender in Sandin-Pellika.
Sandin-Pellika is -15. Chiarot is +1.
Ben Chiarot starts almost twice as many shifts in the defensive zone compared to the offensive zone and has for the last 5-10 years. And this year he's a positive player. His coach trusts him.
He's not going to be the guy to win a team a stanley cup, but as a 4/5 guy, with leadership and character traits with the young guys coming in there, this is a good guy to lock down as Detroit enters their competitive window.

No worries and totally understandable.
Also doesn't help that it wasn't particularly funny
