May just be a personal way of looking at it - but everything before the first top 5 pick is a teardown or a restructure. The first top 5 is the start of the rebuild.

The last rebuild started the day Monahan was drafted. This one (in my mind starts in June). Happy with the tear down so far although would have loved them skidding to a top 10 last year rather than a late season heater.

I guess that definition makes sense linguistically. It may be bad news for some because it means it took TBL 11 years to win the cup after they started rebuilding. Or you might argue they rebuilt once starting in 2008, and then started over in 2013, and then it only took 6 years.

Happy with Conroy's approach, recognizing that he has to satisfy a somewhat staid and stuck-in-the mud management as well AND keep the fans relatively happy. Tear-down and stocking of picks has been good so far...don't see him retreating on that.

Baloney should have been turfed for the total screw-up in messaging...but it DID give us the term "rebiggle", for which he'll always be remembered.

The success of the rebuild though, really rests on the next two drafts and how well the kids already in the system come along and whether the Flames are patient enough with their development.

Well firstly when they traded Markstrom, they should have also dealt all three of Kadri, Coleman, and Andersson. I would have easily taken less returns for Anderson (1st + Hague was tossed around last off season and would have got about that for him)

You can manage your roster down the standings by removing certain pieces. Would they have over performed, sure that’s possible but they would have almost certainly finished in the bottom 10 which is where you could have had the ability to draft any of the centers including Misa although I would have taken Schaefer if picking 1st.

It’s frustrating watching this team drag things out, like even this year until they lost a few in January, I think they were going to push it right to the deadline again and probably stand pat if they were still in it. At least we have something to show for Anderson even though we would have got similar two years ago.

I think Andersson and Kadri would have blocked any trades at that time. Coleman, maybe, but he will get a better return this season IMO. No way they could have finished low enough to have a chance at the top 3 picks.

What up team #9!!

Seeing how much of the roster turn over has taken place from the magical Johnny/Lindy/Chucky season and looking at the number of 1st we’ve collected and the picks on them so far, I just can’t see how you can’t be impressed with what Conroy has done up until now of the rebuild. Still lots to do, still currently 4th worst in the league and in a top 5 spot in terms of picks and still lots of time for trades to be made. Very happy with the rebuild so far!

Had to give it a 6. Rebuild going well except for no forwards certain to be top line players yet.

If they land one of the three forwards in the top 5 of this draft. It becomes a 7.

If one of Reschny, Potter, Gridin, Wyttenbach progresses to top line prospect we reach an 8.

Add another top pick in 2027 and more progression from crop of forwards in system a 9 or 10 may be possible.

I gave them a 7. I’m waiting for some high draft picks before I up my score.

This is really hard to quantify, and I would probably vote differently at the beginning of the season vs. after last year's draft vs. after this upcoming off-season. Overall, I think I would rate the rebuild to date somewhere between a 5.5 and a 7.

Other than the baffling communication earlier this season, there haven't been any glaring blunders such as badly losing a trade or whiffing on one of the higher draft picks. My view is that the front office has done well in adding promising young talent to the organization both through its trading and drafting.

Sometimes I feel like those positives should be discounted due to the pacing of the rebuild -- the trade market is not something any team can control, but I still have to wonder why an Andersson deal materialized this month vs. at the last draft or leading into last seasons trade deadline. If how long it took to deal Andersson is indicative of how long it may take to move other vets, I feel like the process is dragging a bit too much.

So yeah -- hard to nail down, but overall my view is it's in more of a positive direction than not. Obviously some very big moments coming up this off-season and next season before we move into the new arena.

94% of posters think we’re rebuilding. 80% of posters are at least somewhat satisfied with where the rebuild is at and only 10% at least somewhat dissatisfied.

Interesting contrast to some of the louder sentiments around here lately. Thanks for making the real picture a little clearer, Jiri!

I said 7. Like most of the moves they've made, wish they had made one or two more by now, one or two minor flubs.

Last year was weird – basically put the whole operation on pause to give the roster a chance to make the playoffs. I actually think that was a good move for Wolf and the other young players, because it gave them a taste of playing meaningful games in March and April. Jockeying with St. Louis for that wild-card spot was the closest you can get to playoff hockey without actually making it.

I probably move up to 8 if Coleman is traded for a decent return by the deadline and Kadri by the draft. (That particular combination would allow the Flames to retain salary on both trades, which they can't do otherwise.)

Incidentally, I'm a big fan of Whitecloud, but I'd be an even bigger fan of another 1st-round pick if they can get one for him.

I mean, when the choice is yes or no, of course we are closer to rebuilding than not. Even I would vote yes, although the answer isn't really clear yet until the deadline passes. I would still say it is somewhere between a retool and rebuild.

And this is another poll that is hard to answer. How satisfied am I with the trades that have been made? Probably a 7 or 8. How satisfied am I with Conroy? Probably a 9. How satisfied am I with Maloney and Edwards at the top? Maybe a 1. Do I trust the organization going forward? I trust Conroy but not the others. So it is hard to answer the question.

It’s pretty clear they’re rebuilding now after the Andersson trade, don’t see how that’s debatable.

Would like to see them get super aggressive on it, to me this means trading Kadri and Coleman this year and I think (hope) they’ll do it.

I said 6 for my response, however I'll be quite happy to move that up if they deal away players with some value who actually have term left. Conversely it could go down still if they show that it was just moving out an asset that would otherwise walk.
But I think Conroy is doing the best he can with the group around him and for that I'm willing to see where it goes and will happily give him more kudos later if warranted.

I don’t need them to be super aggressive but I do think this is pretty much the year to do it. Move Coleman by the deadline and Kadri by next season and you re-evaluate where things are at next season in terms of who you move out/bring in.
