Flames picks in the first 3 round.
2024 - 9, 28, 41, 62, 74, 84
2025 - 18, 32, 54, 80
Currently expected to pick as of Jan 27
2026 - 4ish, 29ish, 36ish, 65ish 69ish
2027 - early first, late first, early 2nd, early 3rd
Sitting at 19 picks with the potential of more higher picks from Kadri, Coleman, and Whitecloud.
So top picks ranging from 19 to 24 over a 4 year period.
Obviously the key is the player selected in the next few drafts.
Compared to other rebuild teams:
SJ - 17th picks
2023 - 4, 26, 36, 71
2024 - 1, 11, 33, 53, 82
2025 - 2, 30, 33, 53, 95
2026 - 17ish, 20ish, 64ish
Chi picks - 24 picks
2023 - 1, 19, 35, 44, 55, 67, 93
2024 - 2, 18, 27, 67, 72, 92
2025 - 3, 25, 29, 66
2026 - 6ish, 16ish, 38ish, 45ish, 51ish, 70ish
These are 2 of the pro rebuild teams. I picked 4 years but even if you add that 5th year I think the Flames are right in there with the picks. I think a lot of what is driving the rebiggle is that we haven't gotten that one piece yet. If I have time, I might go back and add up the draft pick value, which might also be an interesting exercise or metric.

This is a great post. The other factor against the Flames right now is how badly some unepected teams are playing. The three teams lower than the Flames are all teams who were expected to be in or near the POs. I also expect the Jets will get better - their goal differential says they will. That drops Calgary into bottom 3, fighting with STL for 2nd worst.

The Flames desperately need a top 3 pick this year, preferably top 2. They need to trade Kadri ASAP. If there's any chance of snagging McKenna, they should push for that.

I can't say Kadri has been a big factor in many wins lately.

My proposal for a 2nd question would be
“On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 meaning not satisfied at all, and 10 being extremely satisfied, how satisfied are you with the Flames re-build up until this point.”.
Satisfaction has a bunch of dimensions. How aggressive they have been, how proactive, if they should have started earlier. People can choose to consider whatever dimensions they want. But would people accept that as a good 2nd stage question?
|
Definitely more room for interpretation and discussion.

The Flames have the second hardest remaining SOS. The last month in particular is basically hell.

Still leads the team in scoring.
No one's really a big factor in winning right now (except for maybe Cooley). Hence why the team is 4th last and sliding. But moving Kadri and Coleman eliminates two of the top 6 scorers on the Flames. The Flames need to out tank Winnipeg and St. Louis.

This poll was made, why you haff to be mad?

I haven't been following, so to me this poll was an attempt to end the discussions about the rebuild entirely. I didn't know it was in direct response to something.
I voted no as a protest against the question.

I actually do appreciate the loudest complainers kept to their bit on the poll even though some of them changed to they were rebuilding in the comments lol

There are obvious unserious posters that we don't need to debate with. Every time he gets a reaction from someone - he'll just keep doing it. Starting a poll to win a debate with him is the most clear win for the guy than possible.

In 30 games they will only play 3 games against teams who are out of a playoff race. Mar 10 against the Rangers, Mar 18 against the Blues, and Mar 28 against Vancouver. Things are about to get ugly.

No, he is serious...not a troll honestly. He has admitted defeat on this one in the other thread. I was looking forwad to his vote though not gonna lie.

Fair, but my intent was to fight conjecture with facts. That's all I was trying to do.

It's too bad that only mods can make polls. Could make all sorts of interesting ones in both FOI and OT forums.

I would not. I think that's what we're looking at here.
