Ok I'm a little dense... what's that supposed to mean?
When high balls are on special, I still get Vodka Slimes.
An easy beer to try is Corona.

I think it's wise advice. I learned very quickly how a night in bar/club can be a huge drain on ones bank account. When I saw $200 plus disappearing every month I realised the money could be better spent saving for a car.

It's from the move The Departed. The main character gets "ragged on" for drinking cranberry juice.

Another thought.
Try a vodka and diet coke (sometimes refered to as a skinny bitch).
This is actually a pretty good drink for a few reasons.
1) For some reason vodka and diet coke actually taste pretty good together, but I can't stress enought, that good vodka is essential. And no, Smirnoff is NOT good vodka. Belvedere is best, but if you'd rather not spend that kind of coin Absout, or Silent Sam are MUCH better than Smirnoff and about the same price.
2) Lower Calories. Yup, apparently drinking a dozen Vodka and Cokes every night may cause you to get fat. Drinking diet may help in this regard.
3) Easier hangovers. Less sugar, at least in my case = less hangover.
Another tip to help you find drinks you like better is to lay off of the rail booze. If they are using a gun to pour your liquor, chances are it's not very good.
Be specific, some examples are below:
Instead of ........ Try Asking for
Rye and Coke .....Crown and Coke
Rum and Coke .....Bacardi and Coke
Gin and Tonic ......Tanquery and Tonic
Vodka and Coke ...Absolut and Coke
Better booze is generally worth it.

It's only pronounced "Keetz" east of say Moncton, NB
The night before I moved out here I drank waaaay too many of them thinking it would be my last chance. You have no idea how happy I was when the first Liquor Store I went into in Calgary had 8 packs!!! I thought I was leaving them behind forever. Then to find out the pub down the street had Keith's on tap!! Wow... it's just like home, except horribly overpriced.
As for Monsieur Fish's (don't suppose the name came from the Eyedea track?) problem, I was in the same boat when I was 19. Always hated beer. I started on the ol' rye and 7. Sweet and went down smooth.
Now it's beers at home, and dark rum and coke when I get to the bar.
On a related note... anyone know a bar where drinks don't cost 5 friggin bucks? Back in Halifax we had various bars where they had power hours (10-11pm or something like that) where you could get dollar drinks. Haven't found anything like that out here yet, but I've only been to a few different places.

vodka cran is delicious i second that one. if you want to go all out buy belvedere vodka. personally i think it is the best vodka in the world, which is generally considered to be grey goose but belvedere has just the slightest vanilla hint to it. or drink absolut peach.
period or not its tasty and a lot healthier than pop and not as acidic as OJ especially for someone like me who has acid reflux.
whatever you do stay away from high sugar low alcohol drinks, ie sour puss, any schnapps, baileys. they are ok in small amounts in elaborate mixed drinks but getting drunk off them is deadly.
that being said the greatest shot ever is the marijuana milkshake - baileys and creme de menthe.

Dollar drinks? A place like that would definately get my business.
Been so long since i've been in a bar. Used to have Happy Hour back then, not sure if they still do today.

I should say, I've had most kinds of Vodka and there's nothing wrong with Smirnoff... I might be missing a few here or there.
I'd rank them like this:
The Best: Grey Goose, Belvedere
Solid Choices: Finlandia, Stolichnaya, Smirnoff,
Crap: Silent Sam, Russian Prince, Banff Ice and "the discount vodkas"

absolut Currant and Lemonade. It tastes like a sour soother after all the sour has been licked off.
I'm a beer kind of guy personally but if I dab into the hard stuff it's double bacardi, water with a little splash of coke

I used to think the same thing.
Then I started drinking with my best friend's Polish family, and I realized what good vodka should be like.

Just drink a wide assortment of coolers. But make sure you come back and create a thread detailing all of your favorite coolers. CP loves a good cooler discussion.

I would generall agree with your choices, except I would switch Smirnoff and Silent Sam.
Also on my list
The Best: Chopin
Second Tier, but better than Solid Choices: Sobieski (probably misspelled)
Solid Choice: Zybrovka (also probalby misspelled)

I forgot to say... personally I stick to beer and the brown liquors... scotch, rye, bourbon...
Wine/Port/Sherry/Champagne are also very nice and classy drinks (if you develop a pallate) but I highly recommend not getting drunk off them. Bad Hangovers
Since Blended Scotch is typically junk, I've found when faced with it, to mix it with either cola or root beer... my friends thought I was nuts until they tried it and loved it. (and finished off the bottle of Johnny Walker Red I got as a gift, thank god).
A good training drink is most things mixed with vodka, as it tends to be easily overpowered by its mix. Vodka Slimes, Vodka and Sprite, Smirnoff Ice and Screwdrivers would be good starters assuming you want to avoid coolers.
