Yeah, it wasn't meant as a direct shot at her. I have encountered people like that and it makes you feel very ill.

Indeed!
Friend of mine had a girlfriend like that... scary stuff. She went berserk when they broke up.

Letters - not email - letters. Handwritten if your penmanship is up to it. Don't go on and on about how much you miss him (a little is ok), but tell him everything else about how you love him, and about everything you're thinking and feeling. If you can't send yourself - send your soul.

I'm both! I hog the remote, eat all the foods I love that he doesn't, and spend his money on redecorating a room. I also sleep curled around his pillow. (But I'm asleep, so does it count?)

One thing I tend to do is count down the time untill you can be together again. That and knowing that they are probably missing you just as much as you are missing them can also be comforting. Personally, I have trouble coping as well but it helps when there is an end in sight.

when my gf, went to south america last year she made me a mixed cd as well as a scrapbook of things we had done together. It was just around christmas time so she gave me that along with a teddy bear with her perfume on it...It's a mystery of human chemistry and I don't understand it, some people, as far as their senses are concerned, just feel like home.
I stole this last bit from High Fidelity. I just felt it could explain the whole thing with the smell better.
While it's hard at first, just keep doing your own thing. Work, spend time with friends and family, go to the movies...keep yourself occupied and you'll see that the time will fly by faster than you think.

I'm sorry that you've never felt like this before, anyway, thanks to everyone, I love the reply about the perfume, I have my guy's colon on a card and I love walking into my room and being able to smell him.
Time is passing okay, bad weather these past few days have made for longer days, I can't get out on my motorcycle, so that makes the time go slower. I'm not into slow things. Slow kills.

You're so right. And there is an end, so that's good. But there are so many things in life that only one person can provide for their partners...those are the things I miss the most. No one understands the way they do, so it's hard to not be able to share things with them. But it can only get better, right??!!

Well, sure the guy has trouble forming any sort of cohesive bowel movement, but the important thing is that she has something to remember him by; I`m sure it produces quite a smell, too. And honestly, if a girl`s going to steal one of your internal organs, wouldn`t you rather that it`s part of your digestive tract rather than your heart...

HAHAHAHA.
Okay I have been having the worst day ever, and I've been so grumpy, but that actually just made me laugh. Seriously, thanks for brightening my day.
But anyways, it totally sucks when your significant other is away for long periods of time, but that's life. Time apart can really make you realize how good of a thing you really have. Plus, having some time to yourself allows you to catch up on stuff, and see people, etc. My boyfriend was away for a while earlier this summer, and it sucked but I totally made the most of my time.

Being apart should make you a stronger person. You should enjoy someones company but not depend on it.
I did a long distance relationship for about 10 months, and yeah it sucks... but me and the gf both agreed that if we couldn't do it we wouldn't be as strong of people as we wanted to be.
Independence and self-fulfillment are important things and we decided we'd rather be a couple with 2 very strong wholes instead of 2 halfs that need each other to be whole.

LOL. Glad I'm not the only one to spot the "colon" typo
When I was away for 4 months my wife and I bought webcams, used instant messenger (do people even do that anymore?!?) and talked on the phone a lot. Fortunately, I was in a new city with lots of things to do and explore (which was a good distraction); I also got to do a bunch of things I wouldn't normally do (sports, etc.). The time went by pretty quickly.
My wife was left at home and she says she got through it by working an insane number of hours at work

Do those things involve your colon?
