Thumbs up! Was surprised by the tone of the show. It's not smack full of distracting music and sound effects.. just seems to be telling a story and doing so effectively

I think the link to a Knights Tale, while tonally very different, it's hard to get past the fact that the title and inciting incident are virtually identical.
That said, I just didn't find the episode that engaging, as I said I will probably give it another chance. But I'll stick with what I said, if asked my log line for EP1 would be; it's like A Knights Tale, but boring.
Although I might not be as invested in Westeros as some, therefore may not have had prior curiosity about the ground level, and don't really have key insight into the politics of the age we find ourselves in. I will admit with historical fiction set around real history, I am often very engaged by their ability or lack there of to sow the real history into the story.

For what it's worth THE HEDGE KNIGHT novella came out before A KNIGHT'S TALE

Who's still watching House of the Dragon? I gave up after the first few episodes, couldn't get into it at all.

I wonder if we're going to see more of this going forward because of people less and less inclined to sit still for hour-long dramatic shows.

You could just not watch the episodes weekly and binge the whole thing and then it would be like a big long movie.

You had a hard time with the first season?
The first season wasn't an issue imo. Up there with the better GOT seasons mainly because of the young actors and paddy considine who played the #### out of Viserys.
2nd season was forgettable and on the whole not very good at all, even though it has its moments.
Season 3 will have work to do to keep people engaged.

Yep, the dialogue, characters, and writing just wasn't immediately engaging like GoT was. Ended up watching a youtube summary of season 1 and still couldn't really care for the story.
Gonna watch ep 2 of Knight a bit later, hopefully it's better than ep 1.

Despite the shock value introductions, I find the show charming and appreciate its lack of grandiosity. It’s almost the opposite of HOTD - bright, funny, and character driven. The plot hasn’t progressed a ton but it is still a lot of fun to learn more about this world.

Liked episode two. Same thing. Like the pacing and tone. The decreased run times make it a lot less of an investment timewise.
If you hadn't seen any of the other GoT content it would put an entirely different tone to the convos that Dunc has with the Westeros Lords. However, having watched GoT and having seen how they operate makes those scenes seem a lot tenser.

Episode 2 was good, however nothing out of the ordinary really happened and when it ended I was kind of like 'ok, gotta wait for next week'.
Am still invested though!

I gotta say, I never got into 'The House of the Dragon' and I did enjoy Game of Thrones, but this show? Its finding it's feet.
That scene with the of Tug-of-War was one of the first ones to really put a smile on my face. They're likable characters!
So its going to really suck when this whole thing goes sideways.

This series is a delight.
I'm used to ASOIAF shows being more stressful. This is a nice change of pace.
I had to look up the Targaryen family tree to figure out where the hell we are during this time period. This is between Blackfyre rebellions. Maester Aemon is alive during this time but very young. He is the second son (I believe) of the snippy brother Maekar. Sounds like him and his siblings are the ones missing?

I assume he's going to show up at some point? Doesn't he mention Egg on his deathbed in GoT?
