San Jose still wants a RHD. They were interested in Andersson if he signed. They have spoken with 2-3 other teams about RHD. Asked about Whitecloud as per the request of other people on this board and was told "can't confirm at this time".
|
What the Whitecloud acquisition did was open up either him or weegar to be moved.
Do we/have we circled back to Boston/San Jose based on what has been reported out there and see if their offers for Andersson would be close to what they would give for weegar or whitecloud?
I wasn’t a fan of the Vegas deal but if this is an unintended consequence and we get two decent future packages out of it, I’m warming to maybe this wasn’t as bad of a deal as first thought.

5 right shot D under contract and humming and hawwing about the obvious move to flip Whitecloud. Whitecloud is sleeping on Pachal's couch and they're indecisive again.

Quite assumptious of you to assume that Pachal has a couch

This is inaccurate; Frost produced at a 1.87 points/game in his last season in the OHL, Kerins produced at a 1.76 p/gp in his last season in the OHL. Kerins put up more points, because he played in more games, but Frost actually produced at a better rate.
Kerins had to play in the ECHL in his 1st year pro, only getting into 6 game in the AHL. His 1st season in the AHL he only produced at .59 p/gp. Frost played mostly in the AHL in his 1st year pro, producing at a .70 p/gp in the AHL, but he also played 20 games at the NHL.
Kerins is tweener, the problem is that he just isn't a good enough skater for the NHL, and certainly not good enough of a skater to be a center in the NHL.

Moving Weegar is pure fantasy, they aren't moving him. Even if they did they would be selling low on him right now, the return would be extremely underwhelming. He also has a full NTC this year and next, which then shifts to a 10 team NTC for the 2027-2028 season.

We aren't doing a very good job at exploring what potential exists in the pipeline for a team that's supposedly gearing up for the future.
We're giving looks, sure, but a cup of coffee with a few practices and a couple games with a whole 6 minutes of ice time isn't enough to get acclimated at this level let alone determine anything.

For Kerins maybe.
But what if the team believes there just isn't an NHL player there?
It's not like they haven't leaned into Kuznetzov, Bruz, Gridin and Honzek ... and that's in one season.
If Parekh finishes with a bunch of games that's 5 skaters worked in in one year on a roster that fits 18.
They have to make a call. They don't like what they see from Kerins.

We should want to be a place where we want it because players have earned it, though, not because we just want it.
For Kerins especially, you have to eventually ask why the same age or younger players in Coronato, Kuznetsov, Brzu, Honzek and Gridin have eclipsed him in opportunity. If it was a team issue, sure, but it seems to pretty clearly be a player issue. For whatever reason, he’s not earning it like those guys have and is behind the pace of other guys like Zary and Pelletier (for what he was able to achieve while he was here).

Kerins/Lambo could be a debate
Kerins/Frost is beyond laughable

This likely explains the random scratches for Brzustewicz. For the Flames, 20 games before the Olympic break goes back to the pre-Christmas game in Edmonton. Brzustewicz has played in 12 games since then. So, I'd expect him to be scratched one more time in the final 4 games before the break so he maxes out at 15/20 and can be sent down.

This is more of an off season topic but I'm wondering if the Flames should target Brendan Gallagher as an overpriced vet to bring in for the final year of his contract. The cap is going up and Patrick Laine is off the books this summer so it might not matter but they're hard up against the cap at the moment and might want more flexibility. Would Laine be a deadline target for the Flames if the Habs want to bring in another player? Kadri or Coleman perhaps.
Random thoughts

I disagree on Frost. He's only producing at about .5PPG, but this whole team sucks. Frost is a fantastic puck carrier. Do we have any centre prospects that can carry the puck into the zone, in the NHL, reliably?

I think Gallagher is a great vet to acquire - his approach to the game, and to his teammates, is excellent.
He would make a good replacement for Lomberg, if we trade him at the deadline.
Then trade Gallagher at the next deadline (if there is a market for him)

And points in the AHL is not sufficient - some guys can make the jump, and some can't. So tell us: why are you right and the Flames are wrong? (and the rest of the NHL for that matter, seeing as no one else has come along to scoop him up)

Kerins might be a Brad Morin.

Sometimes Zary does well through the middle. But he also tries risky things near the blue line a lot.

Kerins did have 4 points in 7 NHL games. Phillips had 0 in 6 games.
I think it's natural to want to see if there is more there to Kerins. Kerins also does not have the stature of a bantam player.

I wouldn't be surprised if both Kadri and Frost are gone in a year.

I think that would be difficult for the Flames
Given they have a serious lack of depth at center

I thought it was curious how Frost only extended for two years, afterwhich he will be a relatively young UFA.
You'd think they'd want more term on a young center.
