Maybe he is asking Gridin to do something and player isn’t listening?( probably not but who knows)

I think it’s fine to send a message to a player occasionally. So yeah sucks for gridin that he sat a lot tonight, but talk to him after the game and move on.
Part of instruction is knowing the difference between constructive and punitive.

I just don't like only sending messages to the young players. Huberdeau continuously plays like absolute trash game after game but never gets benched.
And I do not agree with some people on here that vets should get preferential treatment. Rhett Warrener brought it up a while back, but nothing made him more mad than seeing coaches picking favorites while playing. Every player should be under the same expectations. Why should Kadri and Huberdeau be allowed to float and turn it over, but Gridin gets benched if he doesn't get the puck deep one time?
And I'm sorry, I do not think Huska is the guy to develop young players. Unless you are counting our goalies, who I don't think Huska can get credit for, what players has he successfully developed? Coronato struggled alot this year early on, as did Zary. Zayne lost all his confident under Huska. Kuznetsov has been great, but he was really good since game 1. I am not sure we should credit Huska for that considering he was fine with us putting the same player on waivers a few weeks prior.

Huska has developed Jamie Benn, Shea Weber, Backlund, Rasmus Andersson, Mangiapane, Coronato (who is doing fine), Zary, Kuz (and Huska has nothing to do with him being on waivers).

There is absolutely no reason to take such a cautious and protective approach with the young players.
Let them f-ing run.
No one's paying entry plus 60 dollars for grub to watch Huberd'oh! and Kadri eat up the ice time and put up zeroes.

-22 Kadri gives us twice as many bad plays per 60 as the Gridins and Brzs of the team but yeah let's hold the rookies to the especially high standard of play.
Diet Pierre McGuire is going to slowly neuter our young talents unless he switches up his approach down the stretch and in the coming seasons.
The make up of this team is only going to get younger, so he'd be well served in getting more comfortable with leaning on his less experienced roster players now.

Life isn’t fair.
In this instance I’m only concerned about Gridin and how to use this season to make him better.
Getting angry because someone else isn’t being benched isn’t all that relevant to the task at hand.

Its ONE GAME. He’s averaging over 13.5 minutes this season and is getting looks on the power play. He’ll have more opportunity when one or more forwards get traded away. Countless rookies across the league get the same approach coming into the league and end up completely fine. Have patience.

He is actually going down in ice time the last few games. From 15 minutes to 11 minutes to 9 minutes. He has also played a grand total of 8 games.
I will not back down from my position on this. Gridin is one of the key players right now to our future. He is our top winger prospect and I do not appreciate our coaching staff playing games with him.
We have already heard from Parekh how his confidence was completely destroyed this year prior to world juniors. So we had our best defensive prospect getting benched every mistake he made and now the same thing is happening to our top winger prospect. These are important players to the Flames and they will both be on the team in 5 years, while Huska will not.
We have seen in the past how these poor coaches can ruin a great player (Bennett). And I am getting flashbacks to seeing Bennett benched for stupid crap and losing his confidence. All I'm going to say is Huska either needs to learn how to develop young players, or let them play in the AHL until we can get a coach who can do that.
This is not the time for us to be playing games with the future of our organization. I'm tired of Huska rewarding piss poor effort from vets with more ice time, and treating our prospects with a different standard. And I do not want another Bennett situation happening because we have dollar store coaching.

Huberdeau was benched in Huska's first year behind the bench:
https://dailyhive.com/calgary/flames...esday-benching
As for the development of players. Huska put Wolf, Coronato, Zary, Honzek, Gridin, Pospisil, Gridin, Kuznetsov, Brzustewicz, and Parekh in positions to succeed. Unfortunately, prospect development is not linear. Moreover, the initial excitement of being in the NHL wears out, and the games become more of a grind. I would argue that Huska's coaching broke both Zary and Coronato out of their slumps this year.
Parekh didn't lose his confidence because of Huska, but because he had a lot less time and space in the NHL compared to the OHL. Playing Parekh with Hanley in sheltered minutes, with plenty of offensive zone starts, and giving him PP time is putting Parekh in a position to succeed.

I will not give Huska credit for Wolf, he is not a goalie coach. I would actually argue that Coronato should be at a better point in his development, considering it seems like a confidence issue with him. He shows signs he could be a top liner some day but then will not play great for long stretches. The Zary situation has more to do with recovering from an injury, in my opinion. Bru was just healthy scratched after playing great for several games.
I don't think we are going to be able to agree about Huska. But I will think about the points you made and consider that maybe he has done things for other prospects. I do think he does better with the defensively sound prospects like Kuznetsov and Honzek. I just am worried because I do not want another Bennett situation.
I also miss the "always earned, never given" motto we used to have. You would see Johnny, Monny and Tkachuk competing just as hard as the 4th liners. These days, Huberdeau floats every game and rarely misses a shift. Kadri shows up when he wants to and nothing happens to his ice time. It is just such a drastic difference in philosophy that I do not agree with.

Harsh, but until we see some top-end prospects break through and realize their potential under his watch, the jury is out on Huska.
I'm not seeing how under-exposing players and being quick to bench them helps grow their confidence at this level.
His ice time and opportunities should be increasing incrementally.
I'd prefer Gridin see 1st line deployment for the Wranglers than be held to less than 10 minutes and watching when the game is in the balance.

Didn't he get 11 minutes last game due to missing some shifts due to an equipment issue?

Yes and nine minutes this game. 15 to 11 to 9. That counts as slowly going down in minutes yes?

I watched Gridin a lot last night. He was very unnoticeable. I had to search to find him on the ice most of the time. He wasn't skating, he wasn't putting in a ton of effort, and he wasn't able to do anything with the puck once he got it. He was a little overwhelmed by the size and speed of the Caps. None of that is on Huska. There were a few shifts where his line struggled to get the puck out of the defensive zone. He was puck watching a lot and looked lost as to where he should be in the zone to fulfill his assignment.
These are growing pains. He didn't play well last night, and his minutes dropped as a result. He was on the point to start the powerplay on their first opportunity. I'm at a lost as to what else Huska needs to do in the imaginary worlds that some fans dream up.

Really? I noticed him on the backcheck make some good plays a few shifts before the benching . Which Flames do you think played well after the 1st period? Besides Zary.
If you go by hockey stat cards, Gridin scored -0.64 when he was on the ice. Of note Kadri scored -0.70, Huberdeau -1.20, Backlund -1.51, and Coronato -2.33. Kuznetsov; Pahal and Hanley all scored worse than Gridin as well.
So advanced stats say your observations are actually wrong. He didn't play good but neither did anyone but Zary who scored 1.20.
Tired of people crapping on our top prospects.

You're not following the rules.
If a guy over 23 plays poorly he's a bum.
If a guy under 23 plays poorly the coach is a bum.

Flames record needed ...
Make playoffs 116 point pace.
To NOT draft top 10, 108 point pace.
To NOT draft top 5, 82 point pace (.500)
I'd say the Flames have eliminated anything worse than a bottom 7 finish at this point.
