Kadri signed since Hyman.
But I'm not really disagreeing ... but Edmonton hasn't exactly had their pick of the litter despite two great players and some success.
market is market.
But market plus ######ry probably isn't the best plan.

Oilers have also largely been capped out in the McDavid / Draisaitl era and haven't really been creative in trying to open up space to attract that top talent the way other teams do.

They have, just not successfully.

When McDavid leaves...he will, he signed a 2 year deal the Oilers will be back to their old nobody wanting to play there selves. Considering two cup runs, new arena, and McDavid the best they can do for FAs is Mangiapane? Skinner? lol

The Oilers have been creative in opening up space. They've just been even more creative in wasting it on the kind of contracts they gave to Nurse and Frederic.

Huberdeau (50% retained) for Trent Frederic.
Rehash of the Neal/Lucic deal.

You could retain 50% and I doubt anyone bites.
Plus, Huberdeau is the opposite of what they are looking for.
Huberdeau’s problems are much deeper than a system problem. He’s also now fighting his age creeping up on him.

Unfortunately, Huberdeau has been so bad this year, Nurse is a much better player. Plus, I doubt the Oilers consider him bad.

That would be the worst trade in Flames history.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, if Huberdeau gets bought out it impacts Calgary as well with no input on the decision. Huge risk

Huberdeau would probably flourish in a system that isn't dump and chase.

Laine on the block, again. I wonder if there's a way to 3 way and send Coleman to Montreal, Laine to Seattle, and Wright to us.

In what world does Seattle sell that low on Wright?
They're not looking to get rid of him, he's asking to move. If he does go it's going to be a heavy price that is a lot more than a Laine or Coleman.

I don’t think Laine has any value…

Apparently there's an piece in the Toronto Star suggesting Matthews could want out if the Leafs miss the playoffs. Paywall so haven't read it myself.

Team captain experiences one bad year and demands out while playing a key role in the team's lack of success?
That tracks for Toronto, but I suspect that's sensationalist speculation from a rag like the Star.

That's the thing. When he signed that contract, most people were resigned to the fact that we would hopefully get a few good years at the beginning, but the second half probably wouldn't be great. Not only is the first half sucking, but that second half that was always probably going to be bad value is coming up soon. Rebounding for him at this time probably means 60 points tops.

Maybe we all got it wrong and it will be the reverse? Bad in the first half, great in the second.

"Scratch the one that humiliated Huberdeau!"
|
I don’t believe that would be a top 5 factor at all, I’m sure players can look at his performance and think “meh, he had it coming to him” to some extent. When you have at most 31 companies to work for and <5 who want your skillset / have room for you, there’s a short list of things you care about. Money, facilities, family’s wishes, city to do’s, other friends and family, other teammates and a bunch of other things rank above being mean to the NHL leader in full season points drop.
Who’s to say Conroy will even be GM by the time the flames are competitive again? In which case your point loses some value.
