How bad is it, really, to wear expired daily contacts? Mine have been expired since late 2023... clearly I don't wear contacts enough to go through the whole box since then.
TL;DR, would you as an optom yourself wear daily contacts that expired 2.5y ago?

I think I am just done with glasses, and the multi-focal contacts didn’t work.

I wouldn't worry much about what to ask, they are very thorough in their questionnaires and it comes down more to comfort with the office and the surgeon. I will DM you a recommendation.

I would definitely not wear expired contacts. The issue is the sterile seal on the contact lens likely is not working well anymore and bacteria can get in there.
Nothing may happen but I equate it to going 30 over the speed limit all the time. Nothing may happen, but the risk is much much higher of something happening and if something happens it is going to a much bigger problem.
A lot of companies have dailies in 30 packs for those that do not wear them often.

My eyesight is #1 of the things in life I don't want to lose I think... I could deal with losing my hearing, not being able to walk, etc.. so the amount of risk I'll take with my eyes is very low.

As someone who's had crap hearing a good chunk of my life, and wears hearing aids now, it's no fun. But agreed, I would rather fully lose my hearing instead of eyesight.

In specific cases they work.
There is a quite a bit of overselling and pseudoscience related to it. They are being sold and marketed to do a lot more than they can do. Often a cheaper option is available.
I would need to know the exact issue to really make a judgement

Thanks. I got in touch. The number they threw out a rough estimate of $13k which seems a little on the high side, but who knows after the consultation. Maybe they are just trying to discourage people who aren't serious, but I have a friend in BC with much worse vision than me (-10 vs -4 for me) and they paid about $9k for theirs. Would this be one of those situations where it might be less expensive to get a procedure done there?
