One thing about Shane Wright is that he looks like Huberdeau's younger brother.
That alone should make us pass on him.

If the Flames actually move both Kadri and Coleman before the deadline I'll be pretty stoked. Seems unlikely though as they only have one retention slot left and both guys seem like situations where a retention slot should be used to move them.
I guess they could take back a bad contract on one and retain on the other.

We could also get a third party to retain on Coleman.

The NHL’s Olympic break for the 2026 Milano Cortina Games lasts from February 6 to February 24. The NHL trade deadline is March 6th.
That leaves 15 days between now and the Olympic Freeze and 10 days between the Olympics and the trade deadline.

It would be exciting. Once you get to the bottom, it's all upside from there. Personally, I'd be more excited to watch young players who may or may not get better than older players who won't be here when wins start to matter again.

Ultimately, I’d prefer to trade Kadri this year because I think his value has a real potential of dropping off (if it hasn’t started already). When Kadri is playing well and a team is in the middle of a good season, I think the acquiring teams are more willing to overlook the risks of his contract and age because their season is going well and the upside of Kadri on that team at that moment is too good to pass over… but come the off-season, teams become a lot more risk-averse and are less likely to take the chance on Kadri… especially if they have to pay a decent package to get him. Then Calgary has to keep him next season and risk his play dropping off - at which point he might not have any value and might not be tradable. Trading him now should be a priority IMO… of course, that is assuming there are good offers for him before the deadline this year.
Using the retention spot on Kadri would also increase his value more than the value increase of retaining on Coleman IMO. With Coleman, the flames could take back a salary dump from a team but, with Kadri, that would need to be a large contract coming back to offset this salary. Some teams have players with bad contracts like that but not many contenders that would be looking to acquire Kadri.

I can't see the Flames retaining on Kadri for the remainder of his contract.

If Wright had been drafted in the 4th round people would see him for what he is - likely a pretty average 3rd line winger with no physicality. Basically a player we already have about 8 of. Maybe a 2nd liner at his peak if he progresses in the next 3 years. His achievements don't justify the amount of trade discussion he is getting or interest... solely based on draft slot and pre-draft hype. The Yakupov effect.

Lombergs name has come up a few times apparently, pending UFA.
Definitely don't seem any harm in moving him if someone's willing to give us a bullet for the draft.

Moving Lomberg would also help them maybe use the 4th line to showcase younger players down the stretch.

This 100%.
Was thinking last night that I can't wait to be excited about on ice success. Get to the bottom so I can be happy about improving again.
Was never hoping for losses, but you'd have to have your head in the sand to not know the double edge sword in the situation they are in.
Silver lining game watching is bad for the soul.

If the Flames do move on from Kadri, I wonder if they use some of their accrued draft capital to try and acquire Robert Thomas, the rare mid-20s #1 C available for trade (allegedly - #15 on Chris Johnston's trade board). Not their own picks obviously, but those of the Golden Knights as a start. Thomas does have full no-trade protection, but is tight with the Tkachuks where Matthew thought highly of Calgary. Would certainly help with the goal of being competitive come the opening of the new building and a contender thereafter. No idea if Thomas would consider here, though.
26-year-old, right-shot, two-way centre signed to an AAV of $8,125,000 until the end of the 2030-31 season. Has won his 5v5 minutes 144-105 over the last three seasons.

I would hope Conroy is exploring this whether we trade Kadri this season or not. To your point, established #1 centers don't come around often. A Thomas trade feels more like an offseason move vs trade deadline.

You absolutely trade him for a mid round pick if someone is interested, and it sounds like there is interest.
He doesnt even have to pack up and move his family, just re-sign him July 1st if you want *nudge nudge wink wink*
Goes for another cup runs with someone and comes back.
Bottom line is you get a pick if you can get one. Might get another Wyttenbach.

I'd be all for a Shane Wright acquisition by the Flames and it also jives with a lot of Conroy's moves where he acquiries someone who may have worn out their welcome on their team, but comes with a ceiling that was once projected for them that has never been reached. Issue with a potential move in my view is that Seattle is going to want a lot more than many might expect given how high they drafted him. I think a 1st + at minimum is what they'll be asking for, so it'll come down to whether or not Conroy is okay with giving up a 1st even if it's a low pick when the Flames have been able to pick guys like Potter and Gridin at the end of the 1st...
