Cirelli apparently hurt last night, no idea if serious or not yet. Pretty sure Backlund is going to end up going for Sweden.

If Backlund does go for Sweden I would bet he ends up being regarded as one of their key players. Because he is and should be.

Team USA saying that Lacombe was picked ahead of Hutson because as Enoch said, they already have a better Hutson in Quinn Hughes.

Thats Olympic hockey. There just arent enough really good teams especially with Russia out.

Yeah, no Russia and no Belarus really drives down the quality of competition, that and Czechoslovakia splitting.

To be fair, Johansson should have been there too. Backlund or Eklund should for sure be there over Pontus Holmberg

Yeah, Johannson's points and age are similar to Backlund. I don't watch him enough to know how his defence is. But Holmberg is not a good choice, and I'd also say backs has an argument about maybe Rakell and Petterson

Yep.

I really dont care much about Olympics, but at his age with his production and the fact that the Flames are a Hot Mess it would have been nice to see Backlund there, especially at this stage of his career.

This guy Captained Sweden and now they wont give him the time of day? Screw that noise. I hope he takes his family to a beach somewhere and enjoys the break.

This is flat out ####ed … Backs is a genius at hockey.

Plays against the top matchups every night, ends up solidly on the positive side of the ledger

He’s top 5 for me on that roster any day because I have seen what he does day in and day out for years

There's something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about here. Much like Robertson with USA. All you can do is shrug, shake your head and move on.

I generally agree with this. Its just odd seeing that Backlund is playing well and has never been anything but a good and honest soldier for the Swedish National Team and now...at the twilight of his career, they choose to discard him?

Its a slap in the face. I'm getting to the point where Canada may well win. I will actively be cheering against the USA but despite Raz being there Sweden is rapidly rising up my hate-list.

Go Finland and Germany, Denmark and Latvia!! Go Latvia!!

I shall also cheer for France and Italy because who doesnt want to see a huge underdog upset?

Say whatever you want, but the Calgary Tower is a beautiful and iconic building.

Backs being jobbed like this just makes me even more mad that we missed 2 Olympics while the Flames had:

Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Hanifin

Lindholm
Markstrom
Backlund
Andersson

Giordano
Hamilton
Tanev

Frolik
Hudler

All in their primes and never got to see any of them in Olympic action. I honestly think that Tkachuk-Johnny era would have stayed together and been way better if they had gotten to be teammates on Olympic teams.
