He seems kinda like a fall off cliffy kinda guy, though… wonder how much motivation there is after he’s made all that money.

Definitely didn’t want to pay Bellinger that kind of money. I’d have signed him at a show me discount deal a couple of years ago coming off of bad seasons but not a $32.5m AAV deal for five years. I expect that contract will age like milk.

Got the opportunity to buy tickets for opening day vs the A's. $156 for 500-level. Hell to the no.

Prices seemed to have gone up pretty significantly for the less premium games too. Winning has suddenly made Jays less family friendly.

Imagine what prices would be if they signed Tucker

Tell me about it. Or Bo. These are pretty much Leafs' prices for premium games.

Regarding Bo, Rosie Dimanno had a pretty interesting writeup:

Bichette panicked when asked at his intro presser when the question about his opt outs that could make this a one year deal.

His agent had to step in to answer.
Not a good start.

I firmly believe there’s a better than not chance he plays there for one year and gets out. Unless he gets hurt and then he takes the Mets money for a second year.

He’s a private guy, and NY press will be a lot less forgiving than the Toronto press for privacy, nevermind if he or the team struggles.
He’s playing out of position etc etc.

Like Tucker, he couldn’t say no to the cash that no one was expecting to come his way.

It has to be colossally rough for him to be giving up that coin. I'd say there's a 95% chance he never opts out and plays out the full contract. They'll eventually trade Semien and put him there, if needed. I know the Mets are a bit of a laughing stock, but their team is looking really strong now.

It’s $12-$15MM more than he would’ve ideally in his mind like to have gotten on a long term deal, maybe closer to $17 or $18M.
Sign a 6 year $160MM deal next year and takes a cut and it’s basically working out to a 7 year $202MM deal which he would’ve taken this year without anyone offering.

Again, after one season there would be all the excuses why he stepped back as a player and he wouldn’t have any issue in getting suitors. If he stinks 2 years in a row maybe he doesn’t get that money.

I don't know. When it comes to MLB doling out money, we've seen a few years now GMs are willing to pay for proven commodities, but the second someone doesn't have a good season, there's a major reluctance to give out the big contract and those guys have to settle for a "show me" type deal for a year. I really don't think he'll opt out. Too much uncertainty.

Yeah. He will only opt out if he has a great season and it's obvious he will get more. Too much at risk if he has a poor season.
