Default Linus Ullmark - interview about his mental health

An interview with Linus Ullmark on his leave of absence and mental health issues. From TSN....excellent.

Good on him for speaking up so openly about it. I wish him the very best.

(Of course, if he wins the Stanley Cup, he can do it in a year the Flames miss the playoffs. I'm not that generous!)

Yeah it sucks he had to come out and talk about this, but fans somehow feel that they are entitled to know about this stuff and spread the rumors, including on here.

By speaking up, he helps to disinfect those rumours, not only about himself, but about other players having trouble with their emotional health. Some fans may get it through their heads that suffering from anxiety, depression, and similar issues does not make you a defective human being, but it is a legitimate obstacle to playing your best at a sport.

Agreed.

I'm all for mental health being talked about openly including to reduce the stigmas surrounding it, and so others feel like they can as well. And doesn't matter how famous you are, or how wealthy you are - mental health issues can still destroy you. Wealth perhaps gives you better ability to get help, because sadly therapy and even medications aren't cheap at all. But pro athletes and celebrities aren't immune to any of this.

I just don't like the fact he was somewhat forced into doing it.

That was a tough watch but a great one. Kinda cool an NHLer has the same goofball thoughts as an idiot like myself. That was tough. Im not convinced hes through it but i guess its not an 'it' to ever get through.

Goalie has to be the worst. Its all downside. Unless you are perfect, you suck. A winger can string together 30 terrible games together and no one notices. Probably explains why my dad was nuts.

Seeing my kids goalie teammate parents during games, they are a mess, and they aren't the goalie.
