Before people get all excited and drum up some lofty return expections, I believe Kadri & Coleman (if it happens) will be given full say in where they want to get traded to or be significantly(?), heavily (?) involved in the process. They are very respected by the front office. Organization believes they have been excellent ambassadors of the club so will do right by them. Neither will get traded where they haven't given their blessing. Limited NTC or not.

I know myself, Diss and Sec have all been saying the same thing for a while now.
Kadri is committed to CGY and will honor his contract and be here to support the rebuild if that’s what Craig wants.
He’s also very open and honest and will accept a trade to a contender if that’s helps the Flames down the road.
You can’t question his loyalty and desire to win here that’s for sure, but I think we all know his days are numbered and hopefully he can go win another cup.

At the same time, that respect means they won't be traded at all unless the return is substantial. You won't see either of them traded this season for (say) a 4th, just because it's a team that they would like to go to. There's more value in keeping them.

Or I suppose they could send him to Calgary in a trade. Danault could play instead of Kirkland on the 4th line C. Calgary can afford that cap hit for another season easily.
|
Calgary could turn around and trade Danault this year or next, too. If Montreal wanted the swap.

Coleman for sure, as he's got a year left and Calgary can trade him with more flexibility at next year's trade deadline for at least a 2nd and probably a first still.
Kadri, I wonder about. I could see him get fed up if they really start losing and ask for a trade to a contender sooner than later (and that may partly be where this rumour is coming from). That may mean they don't get much for him.

I have no issue with this. I like the fact i root for a team that treats people well. I'll take that, even if it means worse trade returns.

Ya I hope he stays in Canada if he goes, being sent to the United States seems like cruel and unusual punishment for Kadri.

I'm sad we never got to see playoff Nazem in Calgary. Feel like under better circumstances he would have been a beast

You have been banging the 'should have traded him last year' drum pretty hard with Andersson. At some point, it's time to let it go and just move on - we are here, this is what we can deal with. Besides, Kadri didn't want to move last year - let's just be glad that he is open to it now, and focus on that.

Eh, I don’t think there is much hindsight to be had with Kadri. Pretty much every media account is that the had zero interest in waiving. Bad luck timing with the unexpected pop.

Same. Also, this type of integrity also extends beyond trades. If players like dealing with Conroy and the Flames organization treats them well, that info easily gets shared amongst all players, and this sentiment can come back to benefit us when we're in the 'buying' phases later on. With a young and upcoming team in a few years, a new arena and a solid organizational reputation, this can bode very well for us in the not-too-distant future.

Trevor Zegras's "hang up celly" (celebration) was a jab at his former team, the Anaheim Ducks, mimicking how quickly they ended their phone call to tell him he was traded. After scoring against them, he pretended to make a phone call and then abruptly hang it up, signifying the brief, cold nature of his trade notification. The celebration became famous for its direct reference to his trade from the Ducks to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Agreed, and also it speaks to a “direction” and Conroy’s plan.
Return isn’t the most important thing. Progressing towards the execution of the plan is good, and it’ll take many forms.
I don’t think Craig will give him away, but I wouldn’t be looking for a home run.
I’ll hope it’s a Kadri with retained salary for another high pick. That’s the hope, but we’ll see where it lands.

Plus, going into this season, we were all under the impression that his NMC was still in effect this year. It's like we are getting a bonus this year.

For me, with respect to the Andersson trade, the return mattered. (And IMO, was more than adequate, in that regard). And I think Coleman should only be traded for a worthy return (or it can wait until next year).
However, I feel differently about a Kadri trade. I don't think the actual return is as crucial as it is with the others. I think there are two things about it which trump the return:
1) his age: he is closer to the proverbial cliff than the other guys, and there is a higher risk that he falls off it. And when it comes to that, being a year early is better than being a day late. So get what you can, while you can.
2) (maybe more importantly) its effect on the Flames' fortunes. Trading Andersson weakens the team, there is no question about it. No doubt they will continue to work hard though, and guys will step up, to hold things together for a while. But if/when you add Kadri to that, I think you get to a point where things really start to unravel. Taking out your best Dman is going to affect things. Taking out your best C is going to affect things. But take out both? That is going to have a huge impact on their play, this year and next.
I think trading Kadri has a huge impact on where we draft, this year and next, so just get it done. Even if the return is just okay. Not saying give him away, but anything reasonable will do on this one, because the result on draft position is going to be real.
