Regardless of what you think about Whitecloud on the ice, and regardless of whether he's here for a few games or a few years, what isn't in dispute is the Flames picked up a wonderful man to add to an already impressive dressing room. He is refreshingly thoughtful and well-spoken with the media and is loved by teammates. If he sticks around, I think he will become a fan favourite as he has been at all stops both as a pro and beforehand.

I was so impressed with how Zach handled the idiot mocking his chosen last name a few years ago. To respond like this at 26 years old showed incredibly maturity.

Whitecloud could become the new Lomberg - great character guy, who also stands up for teammates on the ice. Making Lomberg more expendable at the deadline.

Re: United's post

This is what Conny has been doing very well. Hands are tied in certain areas, but you can't argue that he's created a likeable team

Nobody can deny that Whitecloud is an outstanding role model for any young indigenous kid with NHL aspirations. He's had to work his way up at every level and nothing has been given to him.

Confirmed this morning that San Jose wasn't allowed/given permission to talk to Andersson about an extension but the feeling was he wouldn't sign there anyways as it was always Vegas.

Offer would have been a 1st, Bystedt and Graf for a signed Andersson but as mentioned the discussions didn't get to that point as they only wanted him with an extension.

Interesting, from a hockey standpoint, VGK makes more sense than BOS and I suppose they're better than SJ but that's an up and coming team IMO.

Living-wise, is Vegas that much better than SJ?

When people live in Vegas they don't live on the strip, they live on the outside/suburbs.

Cost of living is much cheaper in Vegas but wouldn't matter to an athlete making as much as Andersson.

I've lived in SJ for 17 years and have been to Vegas 10-15 times in that time frame. I'd much rather live in SJ than Vegas. Vegas has no state income tax and for a weekend/week it's fun but IMO it gets old after awhile. But like I said most people live 45-60 minutes away from where everything is happening. I definitely enjoy going to Vegas a weekend every year to catch some shows, try some restaurants (they have 3-4 really good ones) and watch a game or two.

I think you have to be big time stupid to choose living in Nevada over living in the bay area. Personally.

Andersson hasn't yet chosen to live anywhere. We may think he's about to easily sign an extension but that's not happened yet.

Thanks for this. My sense was that the SJ area would be more attractive to live year round but can understand it'd be a personal preference. West coast California is amazing though IMO

The Devils are horrific, not much talent up front, a mediocre defence and below average goaltending. And not really any prospects to get excited about. Nemec is about the only thing that is half decent. Really hope Tom discovers that he needs Coleman and gives us their first this year for him.

Thanks for this.

Just trying to (fairly) compare this to the VGS return. Would it have been SJ's 1st in 26? EDM's? The better, the worse?

Regardless, any of the above would be better than the VGS 1st.

Whitecloud vs Bystedt - tough one. Most fans here would say no contest, because they want the young asset, especially being a C. But I think the fair way to assess it is to compare value. Whitecloud would return at least a 2nd, maybe a 1st. Bystedt is probably worth a late 1st. Slight advantage to Bystedt, but I think it's closer to a wash than most people would. TO put it another way, would Whitecloud for Bystedt be a fair trade? Probably, maybe a small advantage to Bystedt.

2nd (conditional 1st) vs Graf - he's probably worth a 2nd, so probably similar value.

Overall, advantage to the SJS return, but the difference (when Whitecloud is turned into picks, and depending what that becomes) really isn't all that significant.

And while most fans probably like the receiving prospects, I always prefer equivalent picks, because the prospects given up tend to be ones that the original team is willing to part with - I prefer the clean slate of drafting your own prospect.

Zach Whitecloud is a really well-spoken guy. Really impressed with his interview yesterday, and think he'll be a good role model for the young players, however long he might be here. Vegas fans on social media seem to have universally loved him too. Playing 22 minutes after a hectic 24 hours including packing, traveling etc is nothing to sneeze at either.

"Just trade him for anything before he gets hurt and to help our pick"

Trades him for a first, another 2nd or first, player worth at least a 2nd, a C prospect.

Votes faceplant with the Oiler trolls lol

Nevada has some world class outdoors and hiking, as well as top of the line food and entertainment. Not to mention an airport that has good flight options to returning home to Europe.
