Carney is in China right now, so maybe he's bringing some pandas back with him.

If Carney comes back with too many pandas, does that make it a pandamic?
I'll see myself out

Smart choice, Brazilians are on average about 2" shorter than Canadians. You add that all up and you can fit a Brazilian or so more on a plane.

Interesting choice for a direct flight to Sao Paulo. I wondering why Westjet won't expand more into Asian destinations like Hong Kong, Beijing, or Manila. Definitely much more demand for direct flights from Calgary to Asia than South America I would think.

Hong Kong and Manila are both longer than the announced Sao Paulo flight, and that doesn't take into account having to go around Russian airspace right now which could make them even longer.

It feels to me like Asia is crowded right now with all the flights via Vancouver and really good connections within the region. We're looking to Asia and YYC - NRT is really good to open up the whole region for quite cheap.
In contrast, Western North America to South America does not seem like a crowded market. Seattle, Vancouver, SFO already are a connection to get to Sao Paulo, and LAX only has alternating days with direct. Most flights require a change in eastern North America. So this is a massive population option.
Also, Latam has a hub in Sao Paulo, so great access all of Brazil, as well as BA, SCL, Lima, Montevideo.
I think the bigger question is why announce at the Zoo?

Winter route so I'm guessing this will cut one of the Mexico 787 routes out of the sched, so no big deal.

Sao Paulo does have a big zoo apparently, but I think it's more-so this

I'd have to think Beijing is on the radar once more 787s get here.
Manila and Hong Kong are too far.
