Ok, is Halo really THAT good? I don't get the hype. My first experience with the FPS style game was Counter-Strike, LOVED that game, played it for years in fact, moved into games like BF1942, Desert Combat, all solid FPS games. Perhaps it is the fact that I can not stand FPS games on a console as I feel they rob you of some of the movement/panning abilities a mouse/keyboard can offer, I just could never wrap my head around using the controls for that style of game. The game was OK I guess but frustrating as I was not used to using a control.
Anyone else walk the path of FPS on keyboard and console? Were you able to do both?

I believe they are now beginning manufacture with the 65 nm chip set which runs cooler and/or putting more fans and heat sinks in. As much as a 3 year warranty was put in place to save face I don't think there is any way they do that without solving the problem for future production runs.
The new chip sets are also much cheaper so the price drop might just coincide with this change in production.
Too many potentially good games between now and Christmas. Two worlds (8.5/10 for the PC version despite all the bugs...clean that up and it may be a great 360 game), Mass Effect (from the Knights of the Old republic folks), Bioshock, Rock Band (you can use your Guitar hero guitar yeah!), Guitar Hero III, Halo 3, NHL '08....

I never did get the hype of Halo and wont be getting Halo 3. As far as getting used to FPSers on a console it took a bit of time but eventually I was able to get used to it.

It's a good series, but compared to PC shooters it's a very average game. Console shooters simply can't match the control of the mouse/keyboard.

same here. tried the original Halo on PC and thought it was average at best. never tried 2, but got into the beta for 3 and still didn't find anything special about it. i think Gears of War and Rainbow Six: Vegas are much better games

Lots of horry stories in here. I thought I would pipe in. I've owned my 360 since the fall (or whenever GOW came out), and I have had zero problems. No read errors or red circles. Well I shouldn't say no problems, my brothers friend fata'd up my guitar hero's disc. If the xbox is lying down DON'T lilt it up when it's playing, same goes for if it's standing up and you lie it down. Good chance it'll ruin the disc.

the X-box versions of Halo and Halo 2 are typically among the top 50 games of all time for all platforms (9.6/10 and 9.5/10 average critic score). So yes they are very, very good games. Now of course the PC versions didn't stack up to the competition when they were released but that's simply because the games were already 2 years old by the time they made it to PC. You don't get 4 million pre-orders in NOrth America for the third game of a trilogy without the games being exceptional. May not be everybody's cup of tea but they are universally thought of as being among the bst games ever made.
The main things halo did was 1) bring a competent FPS to a console where the controls were not lacking at all and 2) revolutionalize online play for FPS.
I really think the whole mouse and key advantage is over hyped now that consoles have dual analog sticks.

Weren't they going to have computer players hook up to Xbox live in Halo 2?
Given the same amount of time, I truly believe that a mouse/kb player will always beat a non-computer aided aiming dual analog stick player.
One of the major advantages is that if you need to turn REALLY REALLY fast, you just move your mouse farther across your desk, and for tight turns, you move it less. Your analog stick, in comparison is limited by the range of the controller.
However, I will admit I'm absolutely BRUTAL at console FPS, but I'm pretty good at Quake/CS and such on the PC =)

Computer = Better for first person shooter
Console = Better for third person shooter

LOL That was suppose to be a "geeky" smiley. It was just funny when I was reading your post I could see Professor Frink from the Simpsons saying it for some reason.

I am not a "video game guy" at all. I have my 360 so I can play Halo & NHL maybe twice a week, at most. That is it!
