Another good one.
And IIRC, fans were not thrilled when we acquired him, either. But as you say, he became a fan favourite.

Sorry if already clarified but what happens in this scenario:
Vegas wins the cup this year - flames get 2028 1st round pick.
Vegas finishes in the bottom 5 next year - top 10 protection applies.
Do the flames end up with unprotected 1sts in 2028 and 2029 in this scenario? Or does Vegas winning the cup in 2026 mean they lose trade protection on their 2027 pick?
The flames would

Yes, they would end up with the 28 and 29 1sts, both unprotected
Extremely low chance, but if it happened, it would be epic - VGS is probably way past their best before date by then

Separate conditions. They’d get unprotected 1sts

According to Puckpedia, if Vegas wins the Cup this year AND their '27 1st is top-10, then the Flames get Vegas's 1st in 2028 and 2029, both without any further protection.

I don't buy for a second that he hasn't had Vegas circled as his UFA destination going back all the way to the summer time. Rasmus made it seem like he was ready to come to the table and talk extension with Calgary, but he'd already made up his mind.
We'll see that when he signs in Vegas here.

Vegas is so differently run than any other organization. And few organizations can operate the way they do. Because they are at the top of the lot of virtually every free agent in the NHL, they seem to never really need to build through the draft. They can get players through free agency and trade because everyone wants to play there. They are also likely to continue this method for years and years at this point. They keep kicking their drsft picks down the road for players in their prime.
Hopefully it catches up to them starting next year.

Yeah yeah, the same tired cheap shot. I literally said Andersson was much better Offensively but Carlo was better defensively. I have a ton of stats to back it up not just plus minus. Fancy stats, jfresh player cards.
With the Leafs on a major push to be better defensively for the playoffs last year I'm not shocked they targetted Carlo.

Just a bit of fun Dino. Not a cheap shot, jokes don't translate on a serious fan forum.

Eventually it will catch up with them, they have sacrificed a tonne of draft picks

Hope so. Unfortunately… my expectation is that Stone gets LTIRetired in a year or two and they then sign Matthews in free agency (reuniting him with Marner)… or potentially McDavid. That’s what I mean in terms of not needing to build through the draft. If they constantly can LTIRetire players and then sign new star players, they can just stay competitive indefinitely.

It's highly likely that neither Matthews nor McDavid makes it to free agency. Either they re-sign where they are, or they get traded and sign with their new team. That seems to happen with the majority of big-name players these days.
Even with Marner, Vegas had to give up an asset to make sure they nailed him down.
That strategy won't work all that well if the biggest names keep re-signing instead of going to UFA.

I was really impressed with Whitecloud's PG interview. Seems very well spoken, could be a leader.

Or Weegar could be moved, and there isn't a vacuum in the maturity department.
