I'm glad he wasn't crazy and didn't beat himself against a poor opponent. He'll have to go for a bit more against Cilic

Geez, Leylah just playing terrible in this opening set. Hopefully, she can flush it away and come out much better in set 2.

Well, not really a nobody, she made some waves last year at the US Open, but that said, this is a match Leylah should have won. I don't know what the total number of unforced errors Leylah made today, but I'm pretty sure it was over 40.
Edit: Aussie Open official site said 28 unforced errors, it sure felt like a lot more. For the record, Tjen had 27 unforced errors. It was not a high quality match, but Tjen did play a pretty good 2nd set tie-break.

Aussie Maya Joint (30th seed) also crashes out in straight sets. Happens with young players.
Unfortunate that Felix had to retire, was hoping he could go deep at Melbourne.

Keen for the Hurkacz v Bergs match. Nothing else too exciting today.
It finished close to midnight local time but glad I stayed up for Muller's win over Popyrin. That was a great match, finished by Muller in the match breaker, although it does mean we likely won't have anyone left in either singles draw past the third, maybe fourth round apart from Demon.

It sure does and she lost to another young player in Tereza Valentova who burst on the scene last year and looks to have a bright future.

I'm watching Raphael Collingnon vs. Lorenzo Musetti at the moment and the guy from Belgium has a chance to pull off the upset.

Tsitsipas starts his campaign today. It won't happen but I'd like to see him go deep, any final other than 1 v 2 would be preferable.

Of course, I type the above and now Collignon appears to be cramping (shaking out his hand and hitting his leg).

She was playing well at times, Hon can be very inconsistent too. Hopefully Marina can stay healthy.

The pickle juice was not enough to save Raphael from pulling the chute in set 4. Too bad, he was playing really well today.

Would've liked to see Fonseca push through. He's still yet to make a fourth round at a slam, but easy to forget he's still 19.
Hubi accounted for Bergs in four sets. He should get through to the third round where Mensik awaits, then it's Novak if he gets that far.

Reading that Leylah is going to be playing mixed doubles at the Aussie Open with Nick Kyrgios. They could be a formidable tandem.

That would be fun to watch. Appears Kyrgios' singles career might be over, this might be as good as it gets for him.

Joao has a chronic back issue and was not moving well. It's a scary one like the problem Fils has that could really cap their ceiling if they don't find a fix.

Thanks, did not know that. He's so talented, at the moment (assuming he can stay healthy) it feels like he's the only guy on tour to really challenge the duopoly.
