The Flames started the season with a goaltending tandem that had less than a full regular season's worth of games... only 77 games combined.
This is a tanking team right from opening night... not one built to make a run to the playoffs nor even a mushy middle.

Teams that want to tank don’t sign studs like Jake Bean, they don’t pick up key pieces like Beecher or find diamonds in the rough like Kirkland. Those are moves by teams trying desperately to make the playoffs.

Even last year before the season started, our goalie tandem only had 93 games combined (Wolf accounting for only 18 of them).
Everyone and their dog thought that they'd be vying for bottom lottery pick.
If your goalie plays lights out, there isn't much you can do.

The unexpected overachievement last season caused a lot of confirmation bias imo. Same roster minus Markstrom should have been even worse than their bottom nine finish and then Huska had them punching above their weight and all of a sudden the Flames aren’t rebuilding even though they haven’t done anything to compete.

One day after the team trades their #1 dman for a first round draft pick we are back to a tanking debate. Good Lord.

At the very end, do you have something you can trade for a red paperclip?

They could pick top three a couple years in a row and someone will be harping about them trying to be competitive. I think they would have been happier not getting Whitecloud back in the trade because he is 30 even though he is an asset

This reminds me of when I used to do this on the NHL videogames from over 2 decades ago. Would trade a 79 OA player for an 80 OA player until I got a superstar from a team

It has actually been said in this thread that the trade would have been better if it did not include Whitehead.

Hate to say it but Dreger was right about Vegas wasn’t he? I’m not a huge fan of his but I feel like he called it. So maybe he has earned some trust on this one
Edit: Colorado doesn’t have much for us though… so I’d rather someone else but trusting Kadri is gone

Colorado would give a cap dump and picks (27 1st, +)...we should also take Makar's brother so he's waiting for Cale when he signs here.

I’m not sure what to expect in a return package for Kadri. Chances are there’s only a couple teams interested that he would go to, so that limits what we can get, but on the other hand, we don’t have to move him.
