Break back baby!
Might finally get a bit interesting now...especially since Dzumuhr is not known to be the most level headed tempered guy when things go not his way.

Well GSM Dzumhur 7-5 6-0 6-4.
Shame about the result and especially set 2, but hopefully a good learning experience in how to play big tournament matches.

Michael Zheng young American Ivy Leaguer is making a run. Ranked 174.
Hewitt, Barrios Vera and Klein in qualifying.
Now Korda in Round 1. Moutet next is definitely beatable if Zheng has any gas left.

I know Korda has had more than his fair share of injuries, but he plays like a poor man's version of Zverev in my opinion. Much too passive and waiting for his opponent to make an error rather than taking the initiative.

Four Canadians in action today in Melbourne as Felix, Denis, Marina, and Victoria all play their respective opening round matches. I'm a little worried about Felix today, Nuno Borges is a very tough opponent who will give Felix a stern test.

Bianca ended up wining the W35 event in Bradenton, Florida just now. She has committed to playing a few more ITF events in order to rebuild her game as well as her confidence. I like this approach, get plenty of matches in and get that winning feeling back. Of course, her body needs to co-operate along this journey.

Felix breaks again to take the opening set 6-3. Playing quite well, but Borges is far from his best and providing FAA a helping hand. Let's see what happens in set 2.

Borges breaks and is serving at 3-2 in set 2. Felix has lost the rhythm on his serve.
Edit: Borges levels the match at 1 set each winning set 2 6-4

Oh man, Felix is not moving well at all at the moment.
Edit: Looks like he just called for physio.
Edit 2: Felix just retired.

Now Marina Stakusic has fallen victim to cramps. This was a winnable match versus Priscilla Hon as well.

The Canadians are on the move tonight.
Mboko is up a break late in the first set (5-4) as is Shapo (4-2)

Both Mboko and Shapo take the first sets.
Mboko is also up a break early in the 2nd set after taking the 1st.

Yes, both Vicky and Denis won their respective matches to help right the Canadian ship. Vicky gets Caty McNally next while Shapo faces Marin Cilic.

How about these Shapo's serving stats in his opening round match? 19 aces and zero double faults.
