How can you say that when Minten was traded last year? The guy would have instantly been our best forward prospect. It absolutely could have happened had Conroy had the wits to trade Andersson at the deadline.

To Vegas: Andersson
To Calgary: Whitecloud, 1st, 2nd (possible 1st), Wiebe

Whitecloud > Kuzmenko + Jurmo
2nd (possible 1st) + Wiebe >= Conditional 4th + Brzustewicz
1st = 1st

Lindholm's deal is heralded as a big win, but this isn't?

I don't track it. I think both deals are pretty equal.

To me, this ties the Lindholm trade as Conroy's 2nd best trade (Markstrom being the best).
Part of the issue is Lindholm was having a poor year while Ras is having a career year

But I don’t think 40 games play into GMs opinions as much as recency bias for fans

Do you honestly think we are going to trade Whitecloud for a pick. Or is it more likely he becomes another "great vet, great culture guy". Because I think the latter is more likely.
I do think this organization likes to have some veterans around.

But if bringing in Whitecloud makes you more willing to move older veterans (Kadri, and Coleman) and then still move Whitecloud in the next 18 months too, is that really a bad thing?

Playoff push? They are a terrible team. If they keep Whitecloud it's because they still need to actually ice a team, not because they have dreams of making the playoffs.

I get you think they should be even MORE long-term focused, but if this is the most you've ever been frustrated, you must be so young that you missed some of the truly dark times.
I am mid 20s, so if you're referring to anything before the 2000s, I was not alive for any of that.

Minten was a second-round pick for a reason. I guarantee you that if the Flames pick top-5 next year, they'll get a prospect that will blow his doors off.

Eh Minten had pretty mediocre AHL and NHL stats last year.

IIRC people didn't actually really see Minten as a blue chip prospect at all when he was traded last year.

He's been good for Boston but Flames have forward prospects better than him for sure.

By the way on a day like today with a huge trade like this and so many thoughtful posts and insights.

The maximum number of thanks allowed ,should be waived.

I ran out too!

Why not invest in a long term asset than a short term fix for on a bad team anyways?

Nice player but nothing special

And wasn’t a blue chip prospect when he got traded

In hindsight he looks like a great get in that package , but he wasn’t a top prospect when he got dealt .

Toffoli, Zadorov, Lindholm, Tanev, Hanifin, Mangiapane, Markstrom, and Andersson

for

Notable picks:
4 1sts — Gridin, Reschny, two TBD
3 2nds — Battaglia, Stockselius, one TBD
3 3rds — Suniev, Zarubin, one TBD

Notable roster pieces:
Sharangovich
Bahl
Whitecloud
Brzustewicz
^ Each could likely return strong pieces at the right opportunity

Seems very strong to me.

Do as you will man I don’t care.

I’m done giving this flames management and franchise the benefit of the doubt. They haven’t proven to be above even average franchise over the last 30 years, so forgive if I don’t assume they have any actual competence.

Whitecloud isn’t the main piece, you realize.

My advice to you on this Rhett44? Take this trade as a win.

This is a rebuilding trade. It's maybe not as super sexy as we all may have wished, but rebuilds aren't super sexy. It's a slog.

Because you still have to play the games in the meantime. Parekh isn't ready for the NHL yet, and Wolf needs some support from his D if he's going to keep improving. We can't afford to defend like the Oilers and hang our goalie out to dry every night; we haven't got McAvi and Pissy to make up for it at the other end.

I've seen plenty of promising goalies ruined because they learned to scramble all over making up for bad D coverage instead of playing their angles and trusting their teammates.

We didn't get two high picks.

The 1st is the Vegas 1st which is closer to a 2nd. It will be the last few picks of the 1st round. And the 2nd is basically a 3rd.
