After seeing so many sells in the past few years, Ive grown to respect Matthew Tkachuk. He was the only one to openly disclose his intentions. He also worked with Calgary by extending before the trade. He could have become a UFA a year later and been paid top dollar. Relatively speaking, he was the only player to do the Flames a solid.
At this point, the Flames would be foolish to expect other pending UFAs to work with them. Its not even fair to expect them to.

Friedman on 960 said he was told Toronto's 2026 1st was never part of Boston's offer to the Flames.
Was Lohrei plus a 1st (didn't specify which year) and maybe some other pieces.

I hope they are also taking calls on Hanley and / or Pachal as well. This doesn’t really open up any room for us on the backend to get minutes for Parekh once he is done his conditioning stint (unless at the expense of Bru)

On to Coleman. If GMCC has learned anything, that has to be it.

Luke Schenn got a 2nd round pick last year
Soucy got a 3rd round pick
Hope Whitecloud returns at least one of those
Hanley and Pachal should be moved as well

If Whitecloud gets a 3rd, I’m content with the trade overall. Any more and it’s good value

Andersson's ask from Boston was equivalent or higher than McAvoy's $9.5M AAV. It was between $75M - $80M.
Bruins were never going to get there. The belief is he thinks he can get $10M+ on UFA Market.

I’m content with the trade as is. UFA vets out for picks. Onward.

I thought I was finished hating Claude Lemieux when he retired from playing.

I don't like this trade, but the run up to it was fun. Thanks to all those who shares gifs and insider info. Looking forward to the next domino to drop!

I find it funny that there's always speculation at the Flames going after top prospects from other teams in every trade. Going back to the Iginla and Bouwmeester days... When was the last time that actually happened? It's hilarious when names like Misa, Iginla, and Hagens are mentioned. It'll never happen, and there so much wasted bandwidth on even having the conversation.

Being hung up on the possible extension is dumb. That’s bonus ####. Tkachuk has ruined all trades for us. It’s so rare… this return is just fine.

I will be interested to see what Conroy does over the next 26 months. Based on his pretty clear rule of not losing an asset for nothing he has the following assets become UFAs that he will either trade or re-sign over the next 3 deadlines (or before) if he does not sign them (players listed by when their contracts expire)
2026 - Bean, Miromanov, Lomberg (basically nothing outside of maybe a 4th or 5th for Lomberg)
2027 - Coleman, Frost, Pachal, Hanley (some potential decent value there)
2028 - Farabee, Backlund, Whitecloud

Depth D are usually in demand on deadline day. We have them.
Priority now has to be to maximize a Coleman trade this season.
I'm fine with keeping Lomberg around another year or two unless someone comes to the Flames with a stupid offer.

My opinion:
2026 - Bean (walks as UFA, whatever you can get), Miromanov (walks as UFA, whatever you can get), Lomberg (re-signed for 2 years) (basically nothing outside of maybe a 4th or 5th for Lomberg)
2027 - Coleman (traded this year), Frost (re-signed for 3), Pachal (re-signed for 1), Hanley (re-signed for 1) (some potential decent value there)
2028 - Farabee (depends a bit, but traded UFA year if we're out), Backlund (re-signed 1 year), Whitecloud (traded this year)

No worries people. We have a good team, but just need to be a little younger. Don't need top prospect to win. We got Frost, Farabee, Whitecloud and some upcoming prospects. Let's see we can crush those Celebrinis, McKennas, Bedards next few seasons.

Looking at PuckPedia, Whitecloud has 2 years after this at 2.75M. So cost controlled. In his prime arguably. Good shutdown guy.
The more important item, no NTCs or anything. We could send him to any team we wanted theoretically. I’d love for Conroy to do this before he even puts on the C. Don’t get attached to him.

As opposed to all the other meaningful, valuable conversations about sports team lol
