I agree with whichever analyst it was that the Flames should look to trade Coleman now to minimize the chances that something like this happens to us again and to maximize the return so that whatever team acquires him gets multiple playoff runs with him. We should be looking to sell anyone and everyone who is not part of the long term plan.

This isn’t about taking less now and the deadline. This is taking less because conroy didn’t learn after hanifin trade that you can’t give all the power to the player when he officially gets to 1 year left on contract. Pretty obvious once Vegas was in picture in summer that he wouldn’t sign an extension anywhere else. The rest was just lip service about signing extension anywhere else

I still think this is a better trade than the rumoured Boston and Detroit deals. I will take Whitecloud over Lohrei. I also will take a 2nd that can turn into to a 1st over Poitras or Danielson, especially with how this group has been drafting.
I am not sure why everyone is so upset over this deal. I hate that it was Vegas but I do think this is about as good of a deal as we were going to get even with an extension.

Whitecloud isn't a cap dump at all. Come on.

I don't fault Rasmus. He signed a sweetheart deal that underpaid him for most of that time. He had the right to either go where he wanted, or set himself up to test the UFA waters.
This will mean 2 firsts in 3 straight years. I like that.
Was hoping for a better return but not going to lose sleep over it.
|
Now that I've had time to digest the trade, reality is setting in and would have to agree with what you are saying. Looking forward to the draft and see Conroy work some magic.

I’m whelmed by this return. For those saying that this would impact our first round pick this year, I don’t think there is any way Vegas was going to miss. This pushed the lottery chance a bit further down potentially, as Vegas keeps getting older.
Whitecloud is a serviceable second pairing dman who could possibly help our youngsters develop. Ideally we flip him this year, but most likely he does get flipped in the next year or so for more assets. Our system does help defensemen look better than they are (case in point Hanley), so hopefully he thrives here to get us something either this deadline or next.
We get an additional second next year, and I’m impressed with our drafting. I’d rather get that than a 23/24 year old prospect, who potentially has stalled or taken a step backin his development. Those are the players who were generally rumored to be possibilities.
Anything that helps Edmonton get out is also a plus.

He's was a top 4 guy for them on a very cheap contract. Guarantee the flames wanted him. Would rather him at his current contract vs Hague at what Nashville had to pay.

Look at us rebuild! What other assets can we hold onto until we run the value into the ground? But we got to keep fighting for the 14 overall pick. Its the only way to sell the Flame logo'd blinders that are oh so trendy round these parts.

Not bitching about Conroy’s work here. Very clearly was putting in the work. He couldn’t get quality, pivoted and got quantity.
Does it feel like yet another kick in the nuts as a Flames fan? Absolutely.
Still bothered by the organization’s past decisions, and still bothered by Maloney’s existence within the organization.
Laughing at the misery in having to cheer for the Hanifin return to be the worst it can be, to make the return of this trade better. That’s just Flames misery to perfection.

The 2027 pick is top 10 protected. So the question becomes, what happens if that pick has to defer? if vegas wins the cup this year, we get their 2028 1st.
If they win the cup, and finish bottom 10 next year - what year does the 2027 1st round pick defer to?
Its very unlikley lol, but I'd imagine itll be 2029

Whatever fair return for a Mid player like Raz. Was having a personally better season than normal but players motivated to get paid tend to do this. This probably helped in getting back a warm body added in Whitecloud.
I’m just kinda glad he’s gone at this point hopefully it triggers more exodus and less wins for the rest of the season. If losing core vets improves our draft standing this year than that’s added value to this trade.

How generous of them to give us a defenseman they had to throw back at us for cap reasons, a prospect they selected in the last round of the 2022 draft, and a conditional 2nd that only becomes great if they win the cup. Oh, but that’s not all: If they win the cup, that means our 2026 1st is the very last pick of the draft. Gee, thanks so much Vegas.
Not much to like about this, at all. Again, happy about the 2027 1st, but the rest of this trade gives it a solid D+, borderline C-. I rate it worse than the Hanifin deal.
|
You can't make them do anything, especially if there weren't equally competitive offers on the table from other teams.

So the 2027 second rounder becomes the 2028 1st founder is Vegas wins the Cup this year?

This is what we should be expecting. Yes Andersson was our best defenceman, but he was our best on a BAD team. This is not a Norris player. And don’t forget that we got over 500 games of his prime, a 1st, 2nd, and roster D, for Markus Granlund.
More importantly, the fact this trade happens further commits the Flames to a rebuild. 4 x 1sts and 3 x 2nds in the next 2 years on top of our current cupboards is something to work with.
Anyone who is disappointed- read non-Flames threads and gauge the reaction. I’m fine with this return

Only positive thing about this deal is that it beats The Hague and first pick talked about this summer
Like others, surprised that Wozniak wasn’t part of the deal.
And stop calling this a rental price. Of course he will extend with Vegas (barring a surprise).
Worst part is that is Vegas. And Conny, fool me once shame on you (Hanifin). Fool me twice, shame on me (Andersson)
Don’t let this happen with Coleman as others have mentioned

Why would anyone boo Rasmus??? He earned the right to be where he is now and as a fan you wish him all the best and to thank him for what he gave us fans as a player.
