When you consider the reasonable asking price was 2x first round equivalents, the Flames did fine here.
I think there’s frustration that it’s Vegas and how the hell no other team could have had a comparable offer to choose from.

Seems like a good rental return. For those complaining why no extension: why would Vegas do that? They know they can re-sign him later. To me it suggests that an extension wasn’t in the cards with any of the teams.

that's why I didn't want him to go to Vegas. Screw them.
Raz has the right to pick where he signs, but I really hoped we could be on the right side of this for once. But it's Hanifin all over again. Sucks.

Seems kind of funny that it's being reported his value is reduced if he's just a rental, but it's widely speculated he'd go there as a free agent. 0 incentive for Vegas to even try and talk extension ahead of time if it meant increasing his value.
Not to cry tampering but makes way more sense to get a message to the agent saying "hey we'll extend you after the deal gets done, just hang tight". Would be shocked if he's not extended by the summer.
Can't wait to complete this trilogy next year with Coleman...

Ha, looking at that Dreger tweet:
-Flames fans: WTF this is horrible, the flames suck....
-Non-Flames fans: WTF Vegas, horrible trade for you, that's a lot to give up, flames just fleeced you...
So....somewhere in the middle?

What can Whitecloud garner at the deadline? He’s only at 2.75 million for 26-27 and 27-28.

Let's be honest, it is a garbage return and people have the right to be angry. And question this management group after this disaster.

He should have been moved at the 2024 draft.
He had the weird exit interview that year where he was unhappy, I heard he was unhappy with the direction and was open to a deal then, but the organization thought the d core would be too thin without him.
Letting it get to this point gave him all the control and he choose to use it.
In the end this is a good return under the circumstances, but we had to leave better offers on the table because the player held the power

Overall, not a bad deal compared to what we thought he may get in the off-season.
For those saying, why not at the deadline - I am glad it happened now. Hopefully the team feels demoralized and starts to lose a bunch.
Iggest lesson in all of this. TRADE players BEFORE their last season. TRADE COLEMAN NOW before he only wants to go to Dallas next year.

People don’t understand the difference between an extended ras and a rental ras in terms of value clearly.
Boston isn’t paying lohrei, Poitras and a 1st for a rental when they aren’t a top cup contender anyways, that was obviously the offer for an extended ras
Vegas can pay more for rentals given their 1st is way more likely to be late and they have a good track record of players signing there

Goodbye Oilers pylon! I hope you and Hanifin recreate your ineptitude vs the Oilers in the playoffs!
This is a great day for the Flames. and FU Vegas!

This certainly feels like a worse return than Minten and a 1st that was clearly on the table last year. Flames once again hold their assets until the end when they have the least leverage as possible and get squeezed on a mediocre return.
Conroy really didn’t get all that much for the Dmen he has shipped out. Zadorov, Tanev, Hanifin, Andersson all returned less than expected in every single deal.

i get Whitecloud's age but Lohrei would have been playing too so it doesn't change the space for the young guys...maybe they flip him this year or next.
i think this deal is fine all things considered...now do Kadri and then Coleman.

I don't fault Rasmus. He signed a sweetheart deal that underpaid him for most of that time. He had the right to either go where he wanted, or set himself up to test the UFA waters.
This will mean 2 firsts in 3 straight years. I like that.
Was hoping for a better return but not going to lose sleep over it.

Everyone is willing to help until it comes time to sign the dotted line for eight years, then they start thinking back to where and what they were doing eight years ago and holy #### that’s a long time. Especially in a business where careers seldom go past 37 or 38. Willing to help becomes “sorry, but” quickly especially when the agent is loudly in their ear, as is their job.

Are the usual suspects who said a month ago the return does not matter just trade the players so the team can get worse and get a higher pick now complaining about the return on a trade that allows the team to get worse and get a higher pick? Suspect the answer to my rhetorical question is yes.
As for the trade, it is a decent return imo opinion by Conroy. Gets another 1st, if Vegas wins the Cup this year they get the 2028 1st instead of a 2nd and they get a prospect and a dman that they may be able to trade for a 2nd or a 3rd round pick. More of the same by Conroy, focusing on accumulating picks and prospects.

Flames are great at drafting so, yay! Andersson will go back to being last years Andersson after he signs his extension. In Conroy I trust
