Of important note, with the Flames retaining on Andersson and Markstrom this season.
They will only have 1 retention slot left for Coleman or Kadri at the trade deadline.
Andersson and Markstrom's retention ends on July 1st.

So basically we're hoping Vegas wins the Cup this year (turning their current pick the Flames already own into the 32nd overall) so that we can upgrade a 2nd into a 1st?

I think there might be some people mad at Ras once other deals come to light... (not an insider, just a guess)

First reaction is that's a pretty decent return for a UFA no? Potentially two 1sts but if not, 1st and 2nd

So if Vegas wins the cup this year, I take it that means the flames get their 1st round pick in 2027 and their first round pick in 2028?

This is why he should have been traded when he had term on his contract (last season). The players never do the Flames any favors, nor should they be expected to.

One first with maybe another first .
That's not horrible.
Lohrei and Poitras are not good .

Be mad a the ability to control his fate and Rasmus Andersson. Blame the fact that Vegas has a tax free haven cheat code paired with a trillion dollar economy

I got busy and couldn't update the last part. I didn't specifically hear VGK. But I can once again say with extreme confidence that Andersson's agent relayed to the teams that he was NOT going to be signing an extension prior to being moved.
Markstrom, Andersson, Hanifin, Lindholm, Tkachuk are all cut from the same cloth.
For Tkachuk - it seems to have worked out. He has 2 cups.
Markstrom - not so much.
Hanifin - TBD - he forced his way to Vegas.
Lindholm - it failed miserably with VAN and he turned down big money and it backfired. Now with BOS.
Andersson - TBD - he forced his way to Vegas.
This isn't a Flames only thing. This is the new NHL.
Players will put themselves FIRST.
Organizations have to adapt and become cut-throat.

i highly doubt any rental offers would have beat this...not my ideal trade but not the worst one either - got those futures people wanted.

That’s a better return than the rumoured deal with Boston that included an extension. Honestly I will take the 2nd that can turn into a 1st over Poitras. Whitecloud is a solid RHS D, that we can either keep or flip for more assets. I am sure there are playoff teams out there that would give up some good assets for Whitecloud. Wiebe played for the college team at the Spengler Cup.

Better return than I expected but still shocked they couldn't get at least Ihs-Wozniak or Connelly.

It is horrible.
50% retention to get a late 1st, maybe another late 1st, a cap dump and a 7th round pick that will never hit?
Gross. How did no other team have a better no-extension offer than this?

BOS (rumoured) offer was far superior though, which makes this a head scratcher.
They won’t win the cup, so that condition is useless.
Whitecloud is aged out of our core years already, he’s 29 and meh.
Weibe is a 7th round pick, must have needed to drop a contract because that’s a very odd throw in.
So essentially Rasmus for a very late 1st.
